PWINSIDER Q & A: STRIKER'S NEW JOB, THE UNIMPORTANT IC TITLE, ANGLE IN WWE, HOGAN'S CCW AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2008-10-29 10:00:00

Do you think Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Wrestling will actually be a show worth watching? Do you see it insulting the intelligence of "hardcore" wrestling fans? I for one am going to watch the show and at least give it a chance before completely passing judgment.

I have watched the first two shows and I think it's a decent show.  On the one hand, you do have the Hogan cronies on it and the Hulkster making claims like "this was a great match" when it clearly wasn't, but I expect that, even if I don't particularly enjoy seeing Brian Knobs every week.  I think that the show has been respectful of the business and interesting to watch for the most part.  I kind of like it.

Are there any interviews or words available from Matt Striker, regarding his (new) announcing role?

If there have been any I haven't seen them.  From what I heard from WWE sources, Striker was very happy to get the opportunity.  He was never going to get a whole lot of exposure as a wrestler and now he gets an hour a week in the spotlight.  It was a great move for him and one that could give him a career in the business for many years to come.

What's the skinny about Lillian Ellison pimping her female wrestlers back in the day?

Moolah represented the women and got them spots on shows back in the day.  Someone had to do it and Moolah was a good choice since she brought up so many of the women.  She was tough and got as much for the girls as possible.  Sure, she made out on the deal but that is to be expected whenever you are in a position to represent others.  I wouldn't call it "pimping" the wrestlers out.

If Karen Angle has indeed left TNA, do you think WWE would have any interest in her, and would she have an interest in them. Also, what do you think they would do with her?

They never made her a character when Kurt was there, so that may tell you about their interest in her, or lack thereof.  With that said, it could have been that Angle never pushed to bring her in.  In any event, she cooled off a lot after her initial run in TNA and I don't know that she brings a whole lot to the table.  I don't see there being much for her in WWE unless Kurt were to come back and even then it would still be iffy given their personal situation.  Do I think she would be interested in a WWE payday?  Probably so.

Back when Hogan bored me at the top of the cards with the same shtick for years, my favorite match on a PPV would usually be the Intercontinental Title Match. The I-C Champ used to be the number 1 contender to the World title and a grooming spot for future headliners. Last Monday, I was APPALLED when I-C Champ Marella was squashed like a jobber for Batista. The I-C Belt hasn't been defended at Wrestlemania since the Attitude Era and this years SummerSlam dual title switch was demeaning. Why is WWE Creative jobbing out the I-C champ? Why is the title being treated like a joke? Don't they realize its value as a fun mid-card attraction that makes mid-card feuds important, while grooming main-eventers?

Quite frankly, WWE doesn't need the IC belt any more.  It has become nothing more than a mid-card prop, which give its history is a shame.  A decade ago, they had the WWE Title and so the IC strap was a good secondary title and a stepping stone.  Then came the brand extension and they came up with The World Title, making the IC belt a secondary prop.  I agree with you, the belt could be used a lot better than it is and since it's a joke now, they should get rid of it as soon as Santino Marella breaks The Honky Tonk Man's record.
