PWINSIDER Q&A: GOLDBERG, SANTINO MARELLA, BOOKER T AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2008-10-25 10:00:00

What do you think the legacy of Goldberg is? This guy has turned a short run in wrestling to a decent TV career. In terms of wrestling does he fall into the Ultimate Warrior class, a guy who was pushed to the moon but really didn't have the staying power? Or is it more of he was the right guy, at the right time, who knew when to cash out?

It is tempting to put Goldberg in the same category as the Warrior, given the length of their runs as top stars.  However, Warrior did pay his dues, working his way up through Memphis and Mid South.  Bill Goldberg never paid his dues, period.  He was absolutely in the right place at the right time, and if someone like Chuck Palumbo or Sean O'Haire had shown up at WCW's doorstep the day before Bill did, we never would have heard of Goldberg.

I am a fan of Santino Marella and "Santino's Casa" on wwe.com. Now since he shows off the Honk-o-meter weekly on both the webcast and Raw, do you see WWE having him run this gimmick all the way to Honky's record? I see WWE just dropping it altogether, like they do with many long term storylines.

I don't see why they can't let Santino go the distance with it.  It's not like they were doing anything else with the IC belt, and Santino can (and has) lose non-title matches during the reign.

In Bret Hart's autobiography, he mentioned that there was a wrestler named Chris Austin that was paralyzed in a match against the Rockers, and later won a settlement against the WWF for $26 million. What happened in that match, and did Vince really pay out that much money to him? That must have been an enormous financial hit to the company.

Actually, the wrestler was named Charles Austin and he was awarded $26.7 million.  He was a preliminary wrestler who teamed with Lanny Poffo against the Rockers and tried to tuck his head during Jannetty's Rocker Dropper, rather than flattening out on the move.  As I recall, Poffo and others who testified how Austin didn't follow instructions on taking the move properly ended up having their testimonies taken out on some sort of technicality.  The settlement was paid by WWE and their insurance company.

Why does Booker T all of a sudden have this African accent? It sounds so forced and stupid.

Is that an African accent?  I thought it was Jamaican.

What is the possibility of WWE being interested in signing Karen Angle to a contract?

I would say it is highly unlikely.  She really has no upside other than ticking off Kurt Angle, and I don't think WWE cares about that.  Yes, she's hot, but she doesn't wrestle, so what's the point?
