PWINSIDER Q & A: WWE RELEASING ANGLE, THE BRISCOES, AJ STYLES IN WWE, TAKER-KANE AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2008-10-13 09:54:05

Why did Vince McMahon give Kurt Angle an immediate release and not make him wait 90 days before he could appear for TNA?  Would you say this just further proves Vince's arrogance towards TNA being a second rate wrestling promotion compared to his own, or perhaps Vince felt Kurt was a "company man" who would never consider working for anyone other than WWE?

I don't think Vince was arrogant at all. The fact of the matter is, Vince wanted Angle to deal with what he perceived to be a painkiller problem. Angle fought him on it so Vince told him he was releasing him. I believe that Vince felt he was doing so for Angle's own good. From what I heard, Angle asked to be released outright, forfeiting a large sum in guaranteed downside money. Vince gave him what he asked for out of respect to what he had done in the past, not arrogance. Vince would have paid Angle for three months while he took care of his issues. It was a pretty ballsy move for Angle to leave that much money sitting on the table.

The Briscoes, who wrestle on various independent promotions....I assume that they are not related to the Jack and Gerry Briscoe who were such great wresters in the 1970's and 1980's, correct?

Nope, they are not related to them.  Plus, Hall of Famers Jack and Gerry spell their name Brisco.

I was watching some old ECW tapes with a friend of mine. I never really watched much ECW and there is a guy with the Impact Players called Jason who seems to do a whole lot of nothing. What is his story?

Jason Knight was a guy who kicked around the Northeast indy scene as a worker before coming to ECW in its early years. He did a gimmick in the promotion where he was "The Sexiest Man Alive". He was a bit small to be a worker so he was made into a personality/manager.

What would you guys think about one last feud between Taker and Kane on Smackdown! building up to a match at Mania, if not this year, then at least down the road.

I like the idea and given the respect Kane has for Taker, I think he would love to be a part of Taker's last match and do the job for him at his last Mania.

Do you think AJ Styles will ever come to WWE and if booked right, do you think he could be bigger than Cena??

No, I don't.  For thing, physically he's just too small so he could never be bigger than Cena.  Seriously, he just doesn't have the promo ability to be a top guy in WWE.  He's much better off where he is now.  I think he knows that too because he turned WWE down when they offered him a developmental deal.
