9/24 SMACKDOWN/ECW RESULTS FROM LISBON, PORTUGAL

By Diogo Tereso on 2008-09-25 14:26:08

The show started with a slight delay, the first since WWE recently came back to Portugal.

Opener - Vladimir Kozlov vs. Jeff Hardy

Kozlov started with a promo in Russian, for which we thought it was something about the global economy, but he was nice enough to translate to English and said he wanted a challenge. This was, by the way, the only promo done in the entire show. Out comes Jeff Hardy, with his music playing for about a minute before he came out. It was a good opener, with Jeff Hardy and his usual wacky offense and Kozlov showing a good dominance of the match. Jeff Hardy won with a Swanton Bomb.

#2 Match - THE Brian Kendrick vs. Jimmy Wang Yang

Typical cruiserweight action, with some high flying, top rope moves, hurricanranas and the sort. THE Brian Kendrick won with a roll up. No Ezekiel, tough. Probably stayed at home reading a book.

#3 Match - Jesse & Festus vs. Edgeheads

This was pretty much the Festus Show. Even when he was out of the match all eyes were on him. Surprisingly, his team won. Who knew?

#4 Match - Natalya and Maryse vs. McCool and Maria

This was the match that all the parents signed up for. Less of a T&A match and they actually had a match. Weird. With was a good display from all the women, especially the heels that were leagues ahead in terms of talent and interaction with the audience. McCool won with that Angel Wings-type move she does.
Maryse looked like she got injured near the end and was helped to the back by Natalya and referees after the match.

#5 Match - Fit Finlay vs. Jack Swagger

Finlay shouldn't smile unless he just beat someone bloody. Swagger came out first with a mic and when he put it up to talk, Finlay music hit. He came out with that green hat and an inflatable shillelagh which he threw to the crowd. Swagger held his own against Finlay and turned the audience against him. Hornswoggle interfered a bunch of times, even with a Super Soaker. Finlay won when the referee went after Hornswoggle. He attacked Swagger with the shillelagh. In the end of the match, Finlay took a bunch of kids to the ring to clown around with Hornswoggle. Hornswoggle tripped in his own clothes and fell in the ring. Finlay then teased the last kid in the ring to fight him, and when the kid walked away he again teased to attack him with the shillelagh.

#6 Match - R Truth vs. Shelton Benjamin

This match was for the US Championship. R-Truth came out first with the "Wassup" bit. Some people looked to see if he came in through the crowd but he came from the entrance way. It was almost an exact copy of the last match on SmackDown! they had on SmackDown!, the only difference was that Shelton won.

#7 Match - Matt Hardy vs. Mark Henry w/ Tony Atlas

No DQ for the ECW Championship. First time in Portugal that a WWE event featured trash cans and ladders. Hardy win after beating Tony Atlas with a chair and performing a Twist of Fate on Henry.

Main Event - Triple H & The Undertaker vs. MVP & Big Show

Undertaker was the headliner here, as all advertising featured only him. This was also a first for Big Show in Portugal. Good match, with MVP acting scared of The Undertaker, Big Show treatening to leave (which he did) and MVP running behind him saying he doesn't want to be alone with Triple H and Undertaker. Big Show turned around, only to throw MVP into the ring. Triple H won the Pedigree on MVP after he tried the Playmaker and Undertaker went after the Big Show when the walked away from the match.

Biggest Pop:
- Undertaker
- Triple H
- Big Show (during the entrance)
- Matt Hardy
- Hornswoggle/Finlay
- Jeff Hardy

Biggest Heat:
- Kozlov
- Mark Henry
- The Brian Kendrick
- MVP/Big Show (when both of them started to badmouth the crowd during the match)

It was a good show although it was the worst one in recent memory. The arena was less than half full which was disappointing (WWE has sold out every single time they came here since 2006). The crowd was pretty much dead too.
