PWINSIDER Q&A: HALL OF FAME, MAD DOG VACHON, WRESTLEMANIA 25 AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2008-09-12 10:00:00

I've noticed a lot of questions regarding the Hall of Fame, so I thought I would toss in my two cents worth.? I was wondering about tag teams in the HoF.? Other than the Samoans (and Volkoff/Iron Sheik), I can't think of any other tag teams that have been inducted into the HoF? A few that I think deserve to be in include the Rock n' Roll Express, the Midnight Express (either or both versions), the Koloffs, Demolition, the Steiner Brothers, and of course the Road Warriors.? Although most didn't work in WWE, do you see any of them ever making their way into the HoF, or any other teams getting put in?

Actually, the Blackjacks and Briscos are in the Hall Of Fame too.  The Road Warriors will absolutely be in the Hall Of Fame at some point, it's more a matter of when, not if.  The other teams, while worthy, are more of a crapshoot.  Obviously, with Jim Cornette and Scott Steiner working for TNA right now, I would not expect the Steiners or Midnights to go in.  I would expect Ivan Koloff to go in as a singles at some point, more than for his team with Nikita.

My questions are about Mad Dog Vachon. I used to be a huge fan of him growing up in Winnipeg in the early 80's when he was with the AWA, and seeing a youtube video of him making a coffin for the Crusher Blackwell got me thinking. So, here goes: 1 - How would you rank, in influence, the Vachon family? 2 - It's been said Mad Dog Vachon was the innovator of violence, is there any truth to that? 3 - Outside of Mad Dog & Luna, any of the other Vachon's make names for themselves?

The Vachon family were pretty huge stars up North in Canada and in the AWA territory.  So, for longtime fans in those areas, they are a big deal.  However, in the Northeast where I was raised, the old time heels everyone talked about were the Grahams and Killer Kowalski.  I've never heard of Vachon being called the "Innovator Of Violence", but he certainly was a violent brawler in the ring.  Outside of Mad Dog, his brother Paul "Butcher" Vachon, sister Vivian Vachon and Luna, I don't believe any other members of the Vachon family have wrestled.

So, I noticed that the graphic for WM25 says "25th anniversary". Did something interesting happen a year before the first Wrestlemania which this Wrestlemania with be the 25th anniversary of? Was there perhaps a Wrestlemania zero that wasn't widely known? The 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania, as we all know, is WM26.

You're very wise to point that out.  And I don't think WWE will care that you did.

With the WrestleMania buzz already starting, and the Hall of fame with it do you see any chance of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard being inducted?

Now that Ric Flair has been inducted, it would seem that the floodgates have been opened for the rest of the Horsemen to be inducted at some point.

Will John Cena be able to wrestle at Wrestlemania?

I would be very surprised if Cena wasn't back in the ring in time for Wrestlemania.  All signs point to him being ready to return well in advance of the big show.
