PWINSIDER Q&A: WOMEN IN WWE HALL, BRUNO-ZBYSZKO TODAY, THE SMACKDOWN SCRAMBLE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2008-08-31 09:51:25

I'm very happy with The Brian Kendrick, MVP, Jeff Hardy and Shelton Benjamin in the Smackdown Championship Scramble. But: Do you think, these participants are an indicator for a transition Championship-Match (with upper midcard guys) at a transition PPV? In other words: There will be a few interim Champions in this match but there is no way, Triple H loses his title after the 20 minutes?

My own gut feeling is that there is no way Triple H is dropping the title at this PPV, but the match can be used to build up the credibility of some of the names in the company, especially Kendrick, MVP and Benjamin.  I can also see Hardy getting a win and then teasing he'll finally get the big one, only to succumb to HHH at the end.

When wrestlers leave the business,  then years later they decide to come back, what is there main reason, money, just miss wrestling ? Your thoughts.

I think it is different for each account and each person, but obviously money is a huge mitigating factor.

Can you tell me the current relationship between Bruno Sammartino & Larry Zbyszko? I know they feuded in the 80's and they continued the feud at Wrestlereunion a few years ago, but are they friends or is there animosity between them?

There is no animosity between the two, nor was there ever.  It was all a work and part of the storyline, which they still sometimes maintain in public.  They've remained in contact over the years.

With all of the announcing changes lately, why hasn't Josh Matthews been given a chance? I seem to remember that he was very good calling the C-level shows and had a great feel for the business, history, and ring psychology. Is he in the dog house or just preferred in a smaller role?

I think, unfortunately for Matthews, he's been the victim of not having enough tenure and other names being hired for more money than he makes.  Still, he's a great announcer and honestly, I would have picked him over Todd Grisham for the lead ECW role - although Grisham has been great since replacing Mike Adamle.

I noticed that among the many names suggested for induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, there was not one female name among them. Women have been a part of WWF/WWE since its beginning. My suggestions for induction: Joyce Grable, Velvet McIntyre, Wendi Richter, Lei Lani Kai, the late Miss Elizabeth and Ivory.  Thoughts?

I think down the line you'll see some of the women you've mentioned honored, but you can't honor everyone at once.  WWE honored Mae Young and Sherri Martel in recent years, so they have been honoring top females.
