PWINSIDER Q&A: JAKE ROBERTS' LEGACY, CM PUNK - TOO MUCH, TOO SOON?, PWINSIDER EVENTS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2008-08-24 10:24:35

If Jake Roberts is, in fact, being considered for the HOF does that mean he is going to be involved with WWE again?  I loved Jake and I believe that if you take his personal life out of the issue he would be considered one of the greatest of all time.  I can't think of anyone who had his psychology in a ring.  He was truly creepy when we was in that ring and staring down a fan or fellow wrestler.  What is your take on Jake?  How do you see his career being remembered?  Do you think Jake could be a real asset to the WWE in a training role, and do you think they would even consider it?

The rumors of Jake Roberts being considered for the WWE hall of Fame earlier this year were exactly that - rumors, but I can see him being inducted down the line as he was a truly memorable character.  I think Roberts' career legacy will be that when he was on, he was the worker who made performers ready for the main event, but that he was someone who squandered his own long-term prospects with his issues.  I don't think he'd be offered a training or management position as he had one in the mid-1990s and basically blew it due to his personal issues.

Has Jeff Hardy fallen completely out of the main event picture?  What the hell happened?  He is extremely over and has had great matches for the last 3 or 4 months, why push him back to midcard status?

I wouldn't say he's out of the main event status, but after being suspended a second time, WWE is smartly wary of putting too much importance into him at the moment.

Hve any of the PWInsider staff ever thought of doing an event during WM weekend?  I mean, who else could pull some great wrestling legends for a Q&A or and Autograph signing or something else along those lines?  Anything through WWE during the weekend is going to be run through the WWE filter, where as with something you set up can be honestly about the fans and the world of wrestling.  Ever thought of it?

No.  There are a ton of events promoted during Wrestlemania weekend and promoting something of our own would take us out of the realm of what we do best - reporting and put us into a situation where we are competing against the entities we cover.  Truthfully, there are hardly enough hours in the day as it is for everything we do already!

Could we possibly see a DVD on the Greatest Tag Teams of All time if WWE were plan to do that?

If WWE planned it, we'd see it.  At this point and time, no such luck.

I have heard that most people are happy that CM Punk won the World Heavyweight Title, but do you think his win was a little to rushed? I mean, he has won 2 championships in WWE so far and both are considered world titles. I don't see him as a top running star for WWE very long like a John Cena, Triple H, Batista, etc. Do you think when his time is over and he starts competing for Intercontinental and U.S Titles, that it will lower his appeal much like it had with Jericho, Benoit, Guerrero?

I don't think it was rushed at all.  The company wanted someone moved to the top level to shock fans and freshen up the main event, and Punk did the trick.  Even if he slides down the card, once the company puts faith in someone with a World title run, they usually go back to them down the line (See Edge).
