PWINSIDER Q&A: WRESTLEMANIA, STEVE AUSTIN, JERRY LAWLER AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2008-08-23 10:00:00

You have said in the past that they should decide what they want from Mania, and book backwards. If so they should have a card in mind now, what do you think about my Mania card? I have tried to be realistic as possible.

Inter Brand: Undertaker vs. HBK. Special Ref: Stone Cold.
InterBrand: HHH vs. Batista
No Holds Barred: Edge vs. John Cena
WHC: CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Jericho
WWE Title vs. ECW Title winner takes all:  Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy
Money in the Bank: Kennedy vs. MVP vs. Kane vs. Finlay vs. Kendrick vs. Nitro vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Shelton
Benjamin
2 fall match: 1st fall Womens Championship, 2nd fall Divas Championship:
Gail Kim vs. Mickie James vs. Beth Pheonix vs. Natty Neidhart vs. McCool vs. Victoria

It's a pretty packed card, but I don't see WWE having that many interbrand matches on the show. I do like the idea of HBK vs. The Undertaker, as "Mr. Wrestlemania" vs. "The Streak" would be pretty cool.

Stone Cold has two movies left in his contract. On this weeks No Name, you guys said something like 'why not make the movie a wrestling match". I thought about it and how a bout this as a concept: Stone Cold and WWE agree that Austin will return for a one match only gig at Wrestlemania 26 against Edge (I'd love to see that match). For 18 months WWE cameras follow Austin around, going to doctors, training etc. trying to prepare his body for his big return. I think a 90 minute documentary released a few moths after Wrestlemania would make great viewing and do good business, as Austin battles with his past injuries to get back into shape, and give an interesting view of the life of a wrestler.

It's an interesting concept, and if Austin were to come back for one more match, it would be cool to see WWE make a documentary of it.

I am currently reading Jerry Lawler's autobiography "It's Good to be the King...Sometimes" and he mentions an incident that I remember differently. He said that when Randy Savage was co-hosting RAW, they were looking for him before the show and someone said, there he is on Nitro. This opened up the color job for him. If this were the case, then I could see this being a big reason for the current heat between Vince McMahon and Savage but as I remember it, when Savage was doing the color, his contract expired and he simply didn't resign with WWF. I even remember Vince wishing Savage well in his future endeavors, a rarity in the business to this day. Plus, Nitro wasn't even on the air yet at this time I believe. Am I correct?

You are correct.  Savage left, Vince wished him well, and Savage's first WCW appearance was actually on WCW Saturday Night.

In a recent Q & A you mentioned that Ric Flair gave Triple H his "big gold belt." Has Triple H ever worn that particular belt to the ring as world champion?

To the best of my knowledge, no.

I recently watched a show unrelated to wrestling, and they had the Hardy Boys theme music in the background. Do these shows need permission from WWE to use their music?

If it is WWE-owned music, then yes, arrangements would have to be made through the publishing company that owns the rights to it.
