PWINSIDER Q & A: SUMMERSLAM CHANGES, TNA BOOKING, ROH'S BIG MOVE, VINCE'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2008-08-04 10:00:00

Is it possible, that WWE will change the Batista vs. John Cena Match for SummerSlam 2008 into a Triple Threat Match with either Kane or JBL (the one, that doesn't challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Title that night)?

Given the way that WWE has been changing booking plans lately, it would not shock me in the least.  They have turned up the schedule on going in different directions lately to an insane level.  If they (well, I should be fair here and say "he") decide(s) to do so again, I would not be the least bit surprised.

So now I see that after all this time. And the lackluster booker TNA has put on week after week without improving in the ratings. And no the recent 1.1 doesn't count cause they've been there before but never progress from there. What will it take for them shake things up and take a different direction? No doubt they have the talent and they wrestlers always do what they can to deliver. But majority of there talent are stuck in the same never ending storylines, or have absolutely no direction. And if comes all down to the creative team to do something with them. So why not now? why not take that chance and push the hell out of someone like jay lethal into the world title picture like now? (as an example) and write smarter & have less twist and turns that don't make sense. What will it take??

The flip side here is that a 1.0-1.1 is a solid number for SpikeTV and it attracts their core demographic.  TNA is obviously happy with their booking situation so at this point, the only real impetus for change that I see would come from Spike forcing it or someone on the current team deciding to leave the company.

Quick question. If you don't have a answer but I'm a ask anyway. When do you think ROH will pull the trigger and finally take that step into the next level and try finally get a TV deal?? I support them for milking it this long without a television program. But technically if there main goal is to succeed then they should do what they can to keep there performers from looking elsewhere for work so they can push the talent they have and won't have to worry about another blow like they had a while ago when folks like Samoa Joe, Daniels, AJ Styles, Jay Lethal and etc. wrestlers had to leave them behind. I don't blame them for making sure financially they are well off. But I think its time to make that jump. What do you think? I'd like to hear your opinion on this.

Milking it?  HUH?  That is a ridiculous comment.  We have covered this before but I guess we have to do it again.  A TV deal is ONLY good for a company if it benefits them.  ROH is owned by one man and he needs the company to make money to stay in business.  Unless someone offers him a deal that pays him well for his product, the right move to make is to continue business as usual.  As we learned with the original ECW, a bad TV deal is worse than having no TV at all.  ECW lost money going on TNN (now SpikeTV) because they weren't getting paid for the slot and they had to pay to improve their production to get on the air.  The hope was that it would spike (pardon the pun) their PPV, merchandise and house show business.  It didn't.  In fact, they made less money since more people were able to see the product for free so they stopped buying as much of it.  So going on TV cost them money and helped lead to them going out of business.  If someone offered ROH a good-paying deal, they would be there in a second.  The problem is, no one is offering that so they are making the right move by not giving away their product for nothing.

I know you may have been asked this before but do you think after Vince McMahon steps out of the limelight a few years down the road he may write a book, sort of like Eric Bishoff's book? I know I would definitely buy that one.

I don't believe he will.  My understanding is that Vince thinks he's above that, plus he doesn't ever seeing himself walking away.  I know I would buy that book too if it came out.

I was having a discussion with a friend over the contractual difficulties that would occur if WWE ever decided to do a cross-over promotion with American Gladiators. He seems to think that there would be no issue if Matt Morgan were to appear on WWE Programming but I disagreed since he is a contracted TNA worker who is being shared with NBC Universal's "American Gladiators". Who is right? Would Morgan be allowed to do the cross-over with WWE?

It would all depend on the wording of his TNA contract.  If it says he can't appear for WWE in any capacity, I don't see how he could unless he got TNA to give him a waiver.  Then again, if I were TNA, I would probably let him do it and would have him wear a TNA shirt in the process.  It would probably be WWE who wouldn't want him appearing.
