There was a question about a Rocky-type good movie based on wrestling and you said that was needed was a good script. I saw an old one which I think is good: it was called 'All the marbles' with Peter Falk as the manager of a woman tag team. It was in the late 70's, I think, and they were running from promotion to promotion to make a living, getting a license (in some states they needed it), they were being screwed by promoters and so on... I found the movie cool even if the wrestling was old because it was more about next-door-characters trying just to be paid and having a little name in the business that the pro wrestling itself. Have you seen it? If yes, how do you find it?
I have seen it, having found a VHS copy at a yard sale once and it is a cute little film. You can find used VHS copies on Amazon.com and Ebay, and there is a DVD version, although I haven't watched it myself on www.Film-Classics.com.
What's with all the venom for Tony Schiavone? I know that every Nitro was THE BIGGEST NITRO IN THE HISTORY OF OUR SPORT, but even when he was spouting this company-line propaganda he was still doing it with more passion than anything that has ever come out of Michael Cole's mouth. I swear there's a string on his back that when pulled he robotically spews out one of his 5 phrases. ("Rey Mysterio is the biggest little man in the WWE" is starting to give me seizures) I thought Schiavone was a good, insightful play by play man who obviously had a great deal of passion for the business. Why is he still so demonized when there are much, MUCH worse commentators? (see Adamle, Mike/Cole, Michael/Lawler, Jerry)
I think it is a combination of the belief that Tony was a good commentator back in his "6:05 TBS" days that many were disappointed when his Nitro work was so shabby, and the simple fact that in his final years, he really didn't seem to care at all about his performance. Then again, given what was going on around him in WCW, you can't blame him for having less than enthusiastic performances.
Does WWE's Wellness Policy include Vince McMahon himself? If he were to fail a standard drug test, what would the penalty be? Would he have to excuse himself from day to to day operations for a month or could he exclude himself from any penalty because of who he is and everything?
WWE will tell you that everyone who appears on camera is held to the standards of the Wellness Policy, and would suffer the same consequences if he failed a test. However, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that people have their doubts about the validity of these statements.
On TNA's Victory Road pay per view Taylor Wilde (Shantelle Taylor) succesfully defended the Knockouts title by again defeating Awesome Kong will a rollup. Sometime prior to the Victory Road pay per view, TNA announced dates for shows in Kansas, Oklahoma and Florida for sometime in the middle of August. It listed stars who were scheduled to appear. One of them was TNA Knockout champion Awesome Kong. Are there plans for Taylor Wilde (Shantelle Taylor) to lose the title to Awesome Kong before then? Is the plan for Wilde (Taylor) to drop the the title to Kong at the next pay per view Hard Justice?
It is simply a case where advertising was put together using the current champions at the time. I wouldn't use it as an indicator of what will happen with the champonship.
When Jim Ross was drafted to Smakedown, did you get the feeling that, deep down, he was dancing a jig, throwing his cowboy hat into the air just like Mary Tyler Moore, relishing freedom from the constant ramblings and nails on a blackboard voice of Jerry "The King" Lawyer to the soft spoken and articulate observations of one Mick Foley?
Absolutely not. JR was very happy with his schedule, show and broadcast partner, and had no desire to be switched (or be told in the manner he was).
