PWINSIDER Q & A: ANARCHY IN WWE, CASH MONEY, SAMOA JOE, RVD, MANIA ABROAD AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2008-07-14 10:00:00

I have asked a number of questions to this feature in the past.  Some get answered, some don't.  I feel if I take the time to send in a question, it's your duty to answer it. Is there a way to guarantee that my questions will be answered on the site?

Yes, there is.  Buck and I do a weekly feature on the Elite section, usually on Thursday and Friday, called The Mailbag.  We answer every question that we are sent from Elite members on those shows so if you want to guarantee that your question gets answered, sign up for the Elite service and send them along.  If you are not an Elite member, we can't guarantee that your questions will be answered.  We get more questions than we can possibly answer here on the sites.  We answer 10 questions every day on this site and on PWInsiderXtra.com.  I don't think there is another site that can come close to that.  We do our best to answer as many questions as we can.

I have a question regarding wrestling reporters. If it’s too personal to answer, I totally understand. My question is, are wrestling journalists/internet writers able to make a good living or do most of them have to supplement their income with another job? It seems like most internet writers report news, record audio, etc. all day long. Does it make them a decent amount of money?

I can't speak for anyone but the three guys who work at this site.  Thanks largely to the revenue generated by members of the Elite site, we all do this full-time.  Frankly, if we didn't make a full-time income we would not be able to do what we do here at the site.  We are no different than anyone else.  We have family, bills, etc so we can't work long hours and not get paid for it.  That just isn't healthy for one's finances or family relations.  If we couldn't afford to pay our bills, we wouldn't be able to do what we do here.  It's that simple.  That is why whenever someone tells me that they love the site and asks if they could do anything to help us out, I say go Elite because the money that comes in from that part of the site allows us to post all of the free content that we do.  As for other sites, I can't say how much time they put into things or what they make from it.  Most wrestling sites on the internet synopsize news items that are broken at sites like this one.  There's not a lot of time involved in copying a story and reposting it so they can do what they do in a short period of time, perhaps while working at their real job.  It does require a lot of time to secure and report the story however.  So, those who are just summarizing can do so in a short amount of time and probably don't require full time pay to do so.

I know there are plenty of examples of the World title being put on a wrestler too soon (it sure seemed that way when JBL won the title in 2004). But I can't think of any instances off the top of my head where a company waited way too long to put the World title on a wrestler. Like say there was a top star in a company who was hot for many years and deserved to win the title, but never did until long after his time in the spotlight had come and gone, at a point where the fans just no longer really cared about the title win. Can any of you guys think of any good examples?

Right off the top of my head I can think of Samoa Joe in TNA.  He was prime for the belt about a year before he actually got it in my opinion.  Another good example would be Rob Van Dam in ECW.  He had to wait until the company was sold to WWE, left for dead and then resurrected to get the strap he should have gotten in 1999!

On the July 7th Raw, was the light falling during CM Punk's promo supposed to be something related to the McMahon angle? What about the guy who posed in front of Batista - was that scripted?

It was related in that it was supposed to show you that without Vince McMahon at the show, anarchy was running wild in the company.  Yes, it was all scripted.

Bonus Question: Which of the Ultimate Warriors fought Orlando Jordan recently? I know there are at least two.

Go tell your mother you were a bad boy so she can wash your mouth out with Mamajuauna.

I'm from Mexico City and I'm a daily reader of your site. My question is if the rumors were true about doing WrestleMania in Mexico City and if it's going to happen in a near future, your opinion and if you will able to come ?

At this point, all we know for sure is that next year's WrestleMania will be in Houston, TX.  Beyond that, who knows!  As for whether it could happen, it's possible.  Mexico City is on Central time so it easily could fit into WWE's PPV window if they chose to have the show there.  The determining factor would be money.  Whatever city looks to be the most financially viable will get the show.  If it happens, I would bet that our Mike Johnson would travel to the show since he goes to Mania every year.  We all can't be out of the office at once or there would be no one left to run the site!
