SHIMMER SHINES OVER WEEKEND
There was said to be lots of good women's wrestling over the weekend as Dave Prazak's SHIMMER taped their latest 2 DVDs on Saturday 7/5 in Berwyn, IL. The first DVD taping saw a Battle Royal for a SHIMMER championship bout against champ MsChif won by Jetta, which was done as a surprise to elevate her. They did this Royal Rumble style. It took several competitors to get Amazing (Awesome) Kong out of the ring after she did several spots putting her over as a monster, including pressing and tossing Canadian star Portia Perez out of the ring onto other eliminated competitors from an overhead position. Sara del Rey ended up eliminated and pulling The "Portuguese Princess" Ariel (New England talent who was using the name before and after Shelley Martinez did in WWE-ECW) out of the ring. This set up a grudge match later in the card, which del Rey won.
TNA's Roxxi returned here during the tapings, working under her old ring name Nikki Roxx, defeating Nicole Matthews. Allison Danger returned from her collarbone injury (and marriage) to defeat Jennifer Blake. She did mic work after the bout putting over herself and Blake as the top Canadian females, which brought out Perez and Nicole Matthews to set up a tag match for the second DVD taping. Kong worked a squash over Lorelei Lee, who does a Cowgirl gimmick. Lufisto defeated Rain, aka TNA's forgotten Payton Banks. Mercedes Martinez defeated Cheerleader Melissa. In the main event of the first taping, MsChif retained the belt over Jetta.
The second taping saw "The Canadian Ninjas" (well, that's what they were announced as) Portia Perez and Nicole Matthews defeating Allison Danger and Jennifer Blake when Perez locked a submission on Danger's arm after they teased she re-broke her collarbone. After the bout, Blake teased a heel turn but didn't and was laid out. They gave Danger a divorce court. Perez is really well traveled for her age (20) and is a more natural heel, so this should be fun. Ariel defeated Roxxi in a rematch from their New England independent feud, which Sheldon Goldberg said put his World Women's Wrestling group on the map in an interview with me last week in the PWInsider.com Elite section. Sara Del Rey defeated Serena Deeb, who did the Awesome Kong challenge at TNA Slammiversary. The best matches of the taping were said to be SHIMMER champ MsChif defeating Mercedes Martinez and Lufisto losing to Cheerleader Melissa, but I was told there was a lot of really fun wrestling on the taping, which is the norm for SHIMMER in general.
Notes: Daizee Haze appeared on the tapings doing an in-ring promo, claiming she couldn't work due to a rib injury suffered while training in the ring...Lorelei Lee suffered a jaw injury against Kong, so former WCW star Daffney worked the second taping, losing to Cat Power. She usually works here under a mask as Shark Girl....For more on the promotion, visit www.SHIMMERWrestling.com.

STRANGE TITLE STRIP IN NWA MID-AMERICA
Larry Goodman Reporting
Marc Anthony was stripped of the NWA Mid-America Heavyweight Title by NWA Main Event owner Mike Porter after a bizarre sequence of events last week. Anthony wrestled Ali Stevens in the feature attraction of Main Event's June 21 Slam Jam show at the Nashville Fairgrounds. In a June 25 post on the Mid-Southern message board, Porter reported that the belt was stolen from Anthony and he, Porter, was offering a $500 reward for its return. Later that day, Porter posted stating the belt had been returned, but it was completely destroyed. On the June 28 Main Event television show, it was announced that Anthony was no longer the champion. Later that evening, an individual doing Anthony's gimmick appeared in a vignette on the rival Showtime Allstar Wrestling television show, although his face was never shown. When reached by phone the next day, Porter confirmed that he had stripped Anthony of the Mid-America title. Porter also stated that Stevens had suffered a dislocated hip as a result of being on the receiving end of dive of an unexpected dive by Anthony. Porter said he was legally bound to say nothing more about Marc Anthony and the circumstances surrounding the theft of the title belt.
BOLTS
Pro Wrestling Guerrilla held their anniversary show last night in Reseda, CA. Despite his ACL tear that was supposed to keep him out of wrestling for up to a year, PWG champ Human Tornado worked a Cage match with Chris Hero wearing a knee brace. Hero won the belt. The Age of the Fall won the PWG Tag Team belts, defeating El Generico and Roderick Strong. Scorpio Sky defeated Chris Bosh while Necro Butcher defeated Osaka Pro's Kikutaru in what started as a comedy bout with a lot of shenanigans before morphing into a brawl, complete with flying chairs. Jay Briscoe missed the show and the word is they won't bring him back, but we'll see. I heard good things about Brandon Bonham, who worked the opener against Arik Cannon, so he might be a name to keep an eye out for in the future. I haven't heard an attendance figure but was told the venue was packed.
Jim Kettner's ECWA returns on 7/26 to Newark, Delaware with the company's first "Fan Interaction Night", something of their version of WWE's Cyber Sunday. There will be a game of Family Feud featuring heels Magnum, The Valedictorians, Jim Shorts, Mr. Scott Wright facing fans that will be picked that night, plus the return of Freak Nasty, who has been "out of action" after being mysteriously attacked, so it appears they will be wrapping that mystery up.
Prarie Wrestling Alliance events in Canada that were promoted as part of Stampede Week in the Calgary area drew poorly over the weekend, gathering crowds in the area of 150-250 fans per event with TNA champion Samoa Joe, Honkytonk Man and Chris "Tatanka" Chavis on top, plus locals including Gama Singh Jr., Red Thunder, and Bill Yates among others. Slam! Wrestling's Jason Clevett penned an article about the events at this link.
The Blue Meanie, Tammy Sytch, the ECW Zombie, and the Equalizer (ECW version, New Jersey native) will be working this Thursday 7/10 for the National Wrestling Superstars group in Seaside Heights, NJ. Meanie is replacing Balls Mahoney, who will be touring for Irish Whip Wrestling in Ireland.
The Motor City Machineguns, Shark Boy, Delirious and Ricky Reyes worked for Norm Connors' IWC over the weekend in Ellsworth, PA for the company's "Basebrawl 2008" event. Delirious lost to IWC champion Dennis Gregory in the main event. Announced for the company's 8/2 event in Elizabeth, PA is TNA champion Samoa Joe & Raymond Rowe vs. Jason Bane & J-Rocc and Jerry Lynn defending the IWC Super Indy belt against Super Hentai. For more details, visit www.IWCWrestling.com.
Al Snow is scheduled for Funkdafied Wrestling (perhaps the coolest name I've heard for an indy in a while) in Christiana, Delaware on 7/27.
