PWINSIDER Q & A: VINCE BUYING WCW, STEPH'S ROLE, COMBINING TITLES, FESTUS KANE AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2008-07-07 10:00:00

How do you feel about/ and do you think it will ever happen..... Unifying the World and WWE title. Having the champion on both shows and defend against a member of a brand at each PPV, and also having a Raw vs. Smackdown match at every PPV with the winner getting a shot at next months PPV. I.e - HHH (Champ) vs. say Edge (sd) with Cena (raw) vs. Kennedy (sd) as the no 1 contenders match and so on. Could really make for interesting matches, PPV buildups and keep the brand rivalry going strong.

Nope, I don't see that happening.  The company wants two brands and given that their shows air on competing networks, I just don't see that kind of crossover happening even if they wanted to combine the belts (which they don't).

With Raw and Smackdown being such great TV the past few weeks, just wondering, is this happening during Stephanie's leave of absence? If so, can you see her resuming her role as head of creative when she returns and being forced to keep the current concepts, or maybe keep the booking team as it is?

First off, Stephanie isn't going anywhere.  Even when she is not on the road, she is still involved in the process.  And to be fair, she is more of an administrator than an idea pitch person.  She runs the team in the manner that her father wants it run.  Right now, Vince is in a different creative mindset than he had been for a while (thank God) and the product has benefited.  He is the major barometer as to where the product goes.  It all starts, and stops, with him.

I've got a question about the WCW product after it was purchased from Vince McMahon. Was it true that he was trying to re-launch it as its own organization by trying to get a TV. deal for them? Or was the invasion angle the idea he wanted to do all the long? Can you fill me in on what you know.

Vince bought WCW from Time Warner because the brand could not get a TV deal from any network and this it wasn't worth much.  When there was still a chance that they could find a TV deal, WCW was very close to being purchased by a group called Fusient Media Ventures for about 5 times what Vince paid.  Fusient had Eric Bischoff on board to run the wrestling end.  Just before the sale to Fusient took place, Time Warner decided that they no longer wanted to air wrestling on its networks.  With no other outlet willing to air WCW, Vince was the only one left bidding for it.  He bought it and said it was going to be a part of WWE TV, but instead he quickly had WWE beat down both WCW and ECW guys and the brand was dead.

Quick question regarding the Imposter Kane angle a while back. What was the original plan for it? Was Kane going to go back under the mask or debut a new look altogether? Why did they abruptly drop it? Was it due to Drew Hankinson's supposed "green-ness?" Thanks for taking the time to answer my question & keep up the good work.

I can't say for sure where it was going to end up but it was definitely put to bed early because Hankinson was just not cut out to play the role.  He has done much better as Festus on Smackdown.

Ok, I don't get this. Teddy Long didn't like Vicki Guerrero. At all. And whenever the two of them were in the same shot, he always had such a look of disdain and disgust on his face. Then he quit. And became GM of ECW. Now here is the part I don't get : if he hates VG so much..why would he agree to a talent share with her? Why would he let his talent work her show? Or is this just another case of "creative" figuring no one would pick up on it?

I admire your memory and you ability to apply logic to wrestling storylines.  But yes, this is a case of what is past, is past, at least at this point.  If/when ECW moves to Monday tapings, I could see it being brought up then however.  Until then, we are just not supposed to think about that.
