I was watching the Hall Of Fame from this year and had two questions. First what was up with Rocky Johnson? He sounded like it was the first time he ever saw his speech when he was reading it, at one point even asking on stage "Who wrote this?" Is he just a poor public speaker or does the WWE hand out acceptance speeches for the inductees? Second was an opinion question, do you see them talking the Hall back into a smaller environment like when it was in New York. I ask because I can't believe fans would go to the Hall and heckle the people on stage. It seems like it would be more respectful to the people being inducted to make it a closed door proceeding and not have to deal with these annoying fans.
I think Rocky Johnson was a bit nervous during his speech, and probably had a more difficult time reading his speech than if he had just freestyled it. WWE did not write the speech for him. As for the environment of the ceremony, I have always felt that WWE made a mistake in turning it into a ticketed event, and should have kept it an "invitation only" ceremony. However, WWE likes the way a full theatre or arena looks on television, and more importantly, they pull in a nice chunk of change by charging high ticket prices for the event. So, don't expect it to change.
If Smackdown gets moved to Thursdays will WWE rename it Smackdown is War?
No, but I heard they were considering "Sudden Smackdown Impact" as a new name. (Folks, I am kidding).
Was Hornswoggle drafted to ECW because they were a man short?Don't quit your day job.
I just read the line-up for the "Mr. Perfect" DVD set, and it brings up a sort-of related question. When the "Four Horsemen" set came out last year, I was extremely excited to finally have the Arn Anderson retirement promo in my library. Flair, Rhodes and Piper aside, Double A's speech gets my vote for best single promo of all time. Of course, it wasn't there. I was kinda hopin' it would be on the Hennig set, as he was the subject of Arn's challenge. Of course, no dice there either. Is this speech available on any home release? If so, which one, and if not, do you ever see a release that will include it? My obvious choice would be a 2-disc Arn Anderson set, but I don't see WWE believing that a release for 'The Enforcer' would do very well.
I was also disappointed that the promo has never been available in complete form. I think the closest we've seen is the clips on the NWO and other DVD sets. Unfortunately, I don't see them doing an Arn Anderson set, so unless WWE decides to include it on some sort of "Best Of Nitro" set (which there are no plans for), I don't think we'll ever see it officially released. Perhaps WWE 24/7 will re-air the episode at some point.
Watching Ric Flair's Farewell still makes me emotional, 3 months later. I was hoping that kayfabe would be suspended, but it wasn't. When Triple H calls for "anyone else in the back that wants to say thank you to Ric Flair, come on out", I immediately noticed Edge first in line, and he looked like he HAD to be first. Did you guys notice this as well?
I think you might be reading too much into it. After all, Edge was the World Champion, so it sort of made sense for him to come out first, and besides, he was standing only a few feet away from wrestlers he is feuding with, so kayfabe was suspended, to a degree.
