Former AWA and Triple Crown champion Stan Hansen is in the midst of working on his autobiography. The book is currently in the area of 280 pages with plans to release it in late 2008 or early 2009.
WWE Hall of Famer Tony Atlas is in the final stages of his own autobiography as well. The Hansen and Atlas books will be released in conjunction with Scott Teal of www.1wrestlinglegends.com. Teal has worked on book projects with Ivan Koloff, JJ Dillon (who I interviewed today in the PWInsider.com Elite section for an hour today covering a TON of topics) and Jody "The Assassin" Hamilton, among others.
Former ECW champion Steve Corino suffered a broken collarbone and a separated shoulder in his match with Ricky Landell last weekend during a fisherman's buster spot on an independent show promoted by B4Wrestling in Morganville, NJ. Corino is expected to be out of the ring 8-10 weeks, the first time in his career he's missed ring time due to injuries.
In an update from yesterday - "Nature Boy" Buddy Austin is actually former TNA Team Canada member A-1. Who knew?
Ian Rotten's IWA Mid-South promotion announces yesterday that their second biggest weekend of the IWA year, featuring separate tournaments to crown the 2008 King and Queen of the Death Match has been moved to Alley Cats Lanes (929 South Indiana Avenue) in Sellersburg, Indiana this Friday night and Saturday, about two miles away from the original venue, which will not have some construction work completed in time. Scheduled for the first round of the King of the Death Matches are Drake Younger vs. Dustin Lee vs. Scotty Vortekz, Corey Shaddix vs. Tank vs. Necro Butcher, Buzz Jones vs. Insane Lane vs. Deranged, Whacks vs. Danny Havoc vs. Nick Gage, Freakshow vs. Mad Man Pondo vs. Viper and C.J. Otis vs. Dysfunction vs. Devon Moore. The finals will take place Saturday evening.
As if that isn't enough light tubes and barbed wire to satiate you, the Queen of the Death Match show featuring Mickie Knuckles (recently seen as Moose on TNA) and other females will take place on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. Scheduled for the first round of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight championship tournament to fill the belt's vacancy are Yujiro vs. Tetsuya Naito, AKIRA vs. Jado, Prince Devitt vs. Gedo and Jushin Liger vs. Minoru. The tournament will be held over three events between 7/5-7/8.
From the "So Much For Retirement" department, Terry Funk vs. Steve Corino in a steel cage is slated as the main event in Robersonville, NC on 10/4. Al Snow, The Blue Meanie, Ricky Landell, CW Anderson, Team Macktion, and former WCW star Lodi are also scheduled for that event.
Dave Prazak's excellent women's wrestling promotion SHIMMER, will hold it's next DVD tapings on 7/5 in Berwyn, IL. Former WWF and ECW star The Blue Meanie has booked a role in the new Killer Wolf Films project "Warriors of the Apocalypse", filming next month in the Erie, PA area.
Pro Wrestling Unplugged continues to work on their first event following Tod Gordon's retirement from professional wrestling to help care for an ailing family member. The promotion will be running the World Gym in Philadelphia on 7/26 with Sandman vs. Jake Roberts, Trent Acid vs. Chris Masters, plus names like Pitbull Gary Wolf, Z-Barr, John McChesney, Amy Lee and more.
Former WCW wrestler Rick Fuller, a mainstay in the New England area, is set for the July New Japan Pro Wrestling tour. Giant Bernard (known to WWF fans as former Intercontinental champion Albert) is also on the tour, as he's been regularly working for New Japan in recent years. TNA's Jimmy Rave will be working his second tour for the company starting 7/5 as well.
Former ROH personality Becky Bayless has relocated to Tampa, Florida in an attempt to try and further her career by being so close to WWE developmental and TNA. She recently made a cameo on TNA Impact as part of the Awesome Kong open challenge. A number of indy talents have been looking at or are in the process of moving to the Sunshine State to assist their chances of a WWE developmental deal.
