PWINSIDER Q&A: STEPHANIE MCMAHON IN PLAYBOY, TUESDAY PPV REPLAYS, TNA AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2008-06-07 10:00:00

If someone wanted to write a wrestling book about a certain retired wrestler but has no writing experience whatsoever, but does have a great deal of imagination, what kind of advice would you give them?

I would say good luck, and go for it, but realize that your writings will be compared to those that have a lot of experience.

Where does TNA work out of? DisneyWorld? Do they have offices within the park or somewhere in Orlando, Florida? Are there plans for TNA to have their own personal building like WWE?

TNA does their shows at a soundstage and Universal Studios in Florida, but still has their offices in Nashville, Tennessee.

I was recently watching the Roddy Piper DVD, in particular the main event from the first WM. When Hogan, T and Snuka were shown walking backstage, it looks like the Iron Sheik was standing near the gorilla position. Was that in fact the Sheik? And, if so, considering this was still the kayfabe era, how did someone who had wrestled heel on the card, end up in a camera shot with the faces?

That was indeed the Iron Sheik, although he was trying his best to not stand out in the corridor.  You have to remember that it was crowded backstage at MSG, and it very well could have been a case of Sheik looking for a place to watch the show, and not realizing that the cameras were going to be following Hogan & company from behind the curtain to the aisle.  WWE did this on occasion during MSG shows, but not for every match.  From my years watching WWF broadcasts on the MSG Network, there were a few occasions when the "wrong kind of wrestler" was seen in the background on a show.

Do you think Stephanie McMahon will ever do Playboy?

I can't say for certain, but I would guess that as she gets older (and has more kids) that the chances of her doing the magazine get less and less.  If she was going to do it, it would have made sense for her to do it when she was a regular television character and after she had her breast enhancement job.

Do the WWE PPV replays that usually start on the Tuesday after a PPV get good buyrates?

From what I understand, the replays (other than the one immediately following the live broadcast) rarely do well at all.  It's more "filler" programming for PPV providers, and it allows cable companies to offer a replay to those that have problems with the initial broadcast.  Obviously, WWE makes some revenue off of them, but the big money is for the live broadcast and the late night replay.
