PWINSIDER Q&A: WWE DVD RELEASES, BRET HART VS. VINCE MCMAHON, UNDERTAKER AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2008-05-29 10:00:00

How does WWE decide who to interview for DVD releases?  Some of their choices seem pretty random.

I think a lot of it falls in the hands of the DVD producer, who selects what individuals get interviewed for the release.  That said, Bret Hart recently pointed out to me in an interview (which you can access in the Elite section of the site), that he has no idea why WWE had Gerald Brisco and Steve Lombardi interviewed for his DVD set, saying he barely spoke with them during his WWE run.

I could not help but notice that on several old WWF coliseum videos, Jesse Ventura is called a former world tag team champion with Adrian Adonis. Now, I know they held the AWA belts but I cannot find a record of them winning the WWF titles. So, did Vince, Gorilla and everyone else count the AWA victories? It just seems so taboo for back then to talk about another promotion, especially when the promotion still existed.

Yes, they were actually referring to the AWA Tag Title reign, which was bizarre for WWE at the time, although you'll notice they never actually mention the AWA.  It is always "World Tag Team Champions" with no mentioning of the AWA.

How big do you think a Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon fight at WM would be? And do you think it would ever happen? And what kind of match do you think it would be?

Considering people are still talking about the Montreal Screwjob over a decade later, it would be pretty big.  And if it was held in Canada or Europe, would probably draw a ridiculously huge crowd.  As for what kind of match it would be, that really wouldn't matter, as long as they were involved.  As for it happening, forget about it.  Bret Hart is not going to wrestle a match again, and certainly not against Vince McMahon.  Bret has made it very clear that while he has made peace with Vince, has no interest in working for WWE again, and physically, he can't have a match anyway.

Do you think it's always been WWE's intention to keep Undertaker undefeated at WM, or did it take a few years for them to realize 'Take had never lost so they decided to keep the streak going?

Nope, I definitely don't think that was the intention from the start.  No one could have realized the impact Undertaker would end up having on WWE during the early years of his run.  However, over time it became part of his character, and in the last several years has become a major part of the Undertaker aura.

I'm watching Royal Rumble 1996 and I'm wondering why was Undertaker wearing a mask?

The reason for the mask was that Undertaker had suffered a broken eye socket at the hands of Mabel during an edition of Monday Night Raw that sidelined him for two months, and when he returned he wore the mask to protect the eye.
