PWINSIDER Q&A: HALL OF FAME BOX SET, WWE WELLNESS POLICY AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2008-05-24 10:00:00

Do you think WWE will ever make a HOF box set, like the Wrestlemania and Royal Rumble ones? I think it would be great for classic fans, but even if they did, they probably wouldn't release it for a couple years because they need more footage. Don't you think that would be awesome?

I think it would be fantastic to have a box set of the Hall Of Fame inductions, especially including whatever footage WWE has of the first several Hall Of Fame ceremonies that were never televised in full or released on DVD.  I think you could also include classic matches from the inductees and make one great set out of it.

If a wrestler gets a 3rd violation as part of the WWE Wellness Policy and is fired, is there a clause in the policy as to if or when they could be rehired or is it a permanent firing? More than likely, the WWE wouldn't want to take another chance but Vince does have a history of giving multiple second chances to those with potential or money-making ability. So, for example, if Jeff Hardy got a 3rd strike, could he be rehired 3-5 years down the road?

This is an excellent question, and one that really isn't outlined publicly by WWE.  They state that a third offense results in termination, but there is no mention of under what circumstances the talent could be brought back.

I know Jim Ross has his restaurant business outside of his broadcast duties, and I was curious as to what other jobs the other on-air announcers have within WWE or what other major endeavors they pursue outside of TV and PPV? This could go for TNA as well. Thanks!

Don West has been known to sell things.... Seriously, most of the announcers don't have major endeavors outside of their WWE gigs, although Jonathan Coachman was doing sports announcing while working for WWE, Jerry Lawler continues to work the indy scene, and Mick Foley does a great deal of charity work.

Even with all the WWE PPV's bunched together, don't you think it's getting ridiculous giving us the same handful of stars in the top matches? In the very least, can't they find a way to change up the undercard, giving different wrestlers from all three shows (I refuse to use the term 'brands') a chance to appear? Gauntlet matches, battle royals, there are many ways to pad out the PPV's every month...

I don't know if I'd want to see a lot of multi-man matches on the shows, but I agree that it would be nice to see things mixed up a bit.  Seeing HHH-Orton in different variations every month has gotten a bit stale to me.

I've been watching wrestling here in the UK since Sky started showing it nearly twenty years ago but in the last two years I've read your site and taken your advice on whether to watch a show or not. The buzz just isn't there. Last week Sky showed a one hour program on the 15 years of RAW and one thing that was really obvious was the pops that the wrestlers received. There was a match were The Rock was fighting Mankind and Austin cost Rock the title. When the glass broke the whole arena exploded, I mean every single person went crazy and watching it at home I get goosebumps all up my arms. Later on they showed HBK's return at Orton's handshake ceremony. The pop just wasn't the same, they just didn't seem as bothered and I certainly didn't get goosebumps.  I know you can't live on past glories but surely creative, Vince and the rest of the McMahons must see the obvious differences between the fans reactions and think we have to get back to how it was. Do they really believe that they have as good product at the moment and if they don't but are to scared to admit it, what will it take for them to do something about it?

Obviously, WWE is not going to publicly admit that their product is not as good now as it was in the past.  WWE can't wait around and hope someone like a Steve Austin or Rock suddenly emerges from nowhere.  They need to work on their characters, and listen to the reactions of the fans.  When someone is getting a reaction, they need to capitalize on it, and not try to push concepts that aren't working down our throats.
