So the 4/21 Raw was built around the King of the Ring tournament, personally I thought the final match for it should have been the main event, what do you think? Also I thought the KIng of the Ring was going to be a mid-carder who has a lot of promise in using this as a career boost, which ok I wouldn't have wanted to see King CM Punk (don't see how they could have done that with him) but William Regal??? Don't get me wrong he's good, perfect heel King of the Ring, but huh?
I am typing this on 4/26 before I leave on vacation so it's not clear yet how they will book Regal. If they give him a big push, then they can make the argument (which they don't even care to do) that they did the right thing as long as he works regularly and puts over some younger talent. Even if they don't do that, if it makes him an entertaining TV character there are worse choices that they could have made. With that said, I would have at least built him up a bit as an active worker before throwing him in the tourney. Him winning came across badly to me because he was a character, not a wrestler. It was like Mike Adamle winning it. Sure, Regal used to be a worker, but that was a while ago. And yes, I would have preferred a younger guy get the gimmick but such is life. As for the main event, well you saw who was in the actual one didn't you? I can't blame WWE for that. They tried to use their star power to draw a number.
Has there ever been a situation where a local indy guy the WWE uses on TV to put over a new worker they are trying to build goes into business for himself by not putting over the WWE guy and trying to make himself look better?
Not that I can ever remember. In addition to being totally unprofessional, it would be career suicide.
Do you think that by only have Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama and leaving John McCain out of it shows how right-winged Vince McMahon/WWE is? Was there a specific reason they left McCain out? They made the Democrats look horrible but didn't do anything to defame the Republicans.
No, I think it shows that right now, Clinton is running against Obama. I fully expect to see the winner take on John McCain in a parody in the fall.
How does an indy promoter make money when bringing in a former WWF/E talent? They pay their flight, hotel, booking fee and payday. I don't see how a promoter can break even on this.
Often, they don't. Some promoters run shows because they love the business and don't mind losing money to do so. Some of the other events are shows that they sell to a civic group or charity where the promoter gets his cut off of selling the show while the group who buys it then loses money. In other cases, they do make money. A lot of the time they do so by paying the big name a nice chunk of change and then paying everyone else on the show very little. If an indy sells 500 tickets at 20 dollars per, they generate $10,000. So, even with expenses they can make money in the right situation.
How does Mike Adamle have a job with WWE? He has just been totally unprepared to call matches his first two weeks on ECW TV.
The one story I heard was that Vince McMahon brought him in as a favor to his friend Dick Ebersol. I don't know how true it is but I do know that McMahon is a big supporter of Adamle's and has given him a strong six figure annual salary. My only guess is that Vince thinks Adamle brings mainstream credibility to the announce booth and honestly, he has Coach and Michael Cole on Smackdown and has tried to get rid of Jim Ross a few times now. Does it shock you that the ability to actually call the matches doesn't matter that much to him?
