I just read the question about Ric Flair's NWA title and the fact that he didn't return it as his deposit was not returned. I have seen a few interviews with wrestlers that have the belts displayed in their homes ( ie. Rock, Stone Cold ). Are these given to them now or do they purchase them?
In some cases, the championships are given to the performers as gifts. In others, they purchase replicas of the belts for display. In the case of Flair, when he was NWA champ, he put up a bond which doubled as insurance that he wouldn't walk off with the belt or drop it somewhere. When Turner Broadcasting took over Jim Crockett Promotions and Herd fired Flair, he asked for the belt back. Flair said they could have it back when he got the deposit returned.
I'm not exactly clear on who owns the footage, but the PNW video that appeared on WWE's Roddy Piper DVD was acquired by WWE via Piper's manager, so there is something out there. I suspect that it's a situation similar to the Memphis library, where much of it has been lost to time or else WWE would have made a solid inquiry into acquiring it for themselves. If they ever do buy a sizable piece, I would think they would produce a DVD as most of the other nostalgia titles have done well (in varying degrees, of course) for them. I think it would be a nice tribute to PNW promoter Don Owen.
Does the WWE women's title belt, currently held by ladies champion Beth Phoenix, have a nameplate with her name inscribed on it just like the men's title belt?
It must certainly does.
As we all can see, Mr McMahon has got the bucks but will Dixie Carter ever sell out to him if he ever tried to but them ? And if she did sell, what would happen to TNA and their roster? Your thoughts.
I think it's a pretty fair presumption that if TNA shuttered operations, World Wrestling Entertainment would be the most likely party, specifically for the video library, but I feel the same way for Ring of Honor as well. It would be in WWE's best interests to nab everything they can for historical purposes and future DVD and Video on Demand releases. I don't see it happening anytime in the immediate future, but in a theoretical world, if it did, I don't see WWE keeping TNA around. They would absorb some talent and remake them into "WWE stars" while discarding others, the same way they did so with WCW.
