PWINSIDER Q & A: JEFF HARDY'S RETURN, JOHN CENA'S GIMMICK, VINCE'S HEAT WITH JARRETT, HALL OF FAME AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2008-03-31 09:54:00

I'm a John Cena fan but I miss the days when he would battle rap and rip apart his opponents verbally do you think he will go back to the way it was he got a way better pop from the crowd back then and did way better promos and had the crowd just going with him? Have you heard anything if he would be putting out a new CD?

He is way more over now with the masses than he was back then, and by that I mean he sells more tickets and merchandise.  Some young males hate him, true, but a lot don't.  And, the kids and women love him.  Since kids buy a lot of merchandise, house show tickets and PPVs, I don't see them turning Cena heel any time soon.  On top of that he will also be starring in a new movie, so that is another reason he probably won't be turned.  No, I have not heard anything about him doing a new CD. His plate is pretty full right now with the movie.  And really, doing that gimmick would kind of be taking a step back for him since he's already been there, done that.

It was reported here on the site a few months ago, that WWE would drop the Charlie Haas mask-gimmick. However, he is still using it and also changing gear under the ring. Is WWE really willing to continuing with this storyline/gimmick?

I don't recall that being reported here because honestly I never thought it was a storyline or gimmick.  I am not sure what it is other than something that happened from time to time and never got any really promotion by the announcers.  Maybe it will go somewhere, but I don't know any more than that at this point.

I know it's still a year away but with Wrestlemania 25 being in Houston next year, what do you guys think of a Texas themed Hall of Fame? I believe it would be a pretty cool concept since Texas has such a rich history of professional wrestling. I think the main attraction for the Hall of Fame should be the induction of Stone Cold Steve Austin. He's been inactive long enough that it's time to induct the first member of the Attitude era. After Austin I think other inductees should include the Von Erichs, the Freebirds, and Dory & Terry Funk. Maybe even throw in Ted DiBiase considering he was trained by the Funks. Might be a bit of an overload to include the Von Erichs and the Freebirds in one ceremony but just a thought. What do you guys think?

I think it makes perfect sense.  This year's was a Florida themed Hall so if they why not do one for Texas?  Since they have an all-time great in Austin to induct, it makes perfect sense to me.

What is Vince McMahon's issue with Jeff Jarrett? A lot of guys have burnt bridges before with Vince, only to be hired back when possible money made was a part of the equation. Besides Randy Savage, I cannot think of anyone more on the outs with Vince McMahon (even pre-TNA). What did Jarrett do?

In a nutshell, WWE allowed Jarrett's contract to expire while he was still the Intercontinental Champion.  He was heading to WCW but he had to drop the title before he left, which he was more than happy to do.  In WWE, talent can wait months to get their PPV and merchandise checks as WWE pays them when the revenue comes in.  Being in a position of power, Jarrett agreed to work the PPV and drop the belt to Chyna, but he wanted all of the money due him before he left.  The urban legend is that he asked for $200,000 to do the match and that Vince McMahon resented being on the receiving end of a power sandwich.

Hey I had a few questions about Jeff Hardy.. He is my favorite star right now…. I know a lot of people who were going to buy WrestleMania just to see jeff win MITB and possibly the title in the same night… My question is since now we know that won't happen, and the lack of Hardy on Raw now, do you think this is one of the reasons for the Raw ratings going down right before WrestleMania??? Also, do you think that also will turn others off to the PPV as well??? And I know he screwed up big, but he’s still my fave and I know he will still be Mega over with the fans.. So do yo u still see a WWE title run in his future if he stays clean… I mean look at Orton… He’s been given suspensions for much worse conduct and he’s WWE champ now and he’s nowhere near as over as Hardy nor was he ever… See my point???

Ok, let's answer them in order.

I think the main reasons for the drop in Raw ratings leading up to Mania is more than just one thing.  I think it's more along the lines of the sameness of the product, plus some apathy towards the build for WrestleMania.  If someone wasn't planning on buying the show, they may choose to skip the shows.  WWE didn't announce Hardy's suspension to their TV audience so I think his suspension has been a minimal reason.

I certainly think that some Hardy fans will not purchase the show with neither of the brothers being advertised as appearing on it.  Some fans only like the Hardys so without them on the PPV, there is no reason for them to get it.

I think it will be really hard to give him the Title at this point.  Right in the middle of his biggest push, he let them down.  And now, if he fails another test he will be fired.  It's really hard to put the belt on him now, no matter how clean he appears.  Having to fire the champ would be a PR nightmare for the company.
