PWINSIDER Q&A: WRESTLEMANIA IN THE RAIN, WWE BAITING & SWITCHING TONIGHT'S BATTLE ROYAL, CW ANDERSON, LITA & TRISH RETURNING FOR MANIA AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2008-03-30 09:00:03
If it pours tonight at Wrestlemania, could we be looking at guys wrestling in an empty stadium?

Absolutely not.  There's no way fans who paid a good price to see the biggest show of the year live disperse, unless there's a lightning storm or something equally dangerous.  I expect that if the weather is bad, it'll be like an NFL game in the snow - wet, miserable fans who tune out the conditions to enjoy themselves.

Did WWE give a reason for the 24 man battle royal not being on the ppv? Other than saving them money?

No, it was likely done to make sure the company has more time for other matches and segments on the PPV broadcast.  How they don't have enough time for a Battle Royal during a four hour PPV show, I don't know, but I also don't know how the formatting of the show has been put together as I write this.

Why put Ashley in with Maria in the Bunnymania match?  What about Mickie James, who was feuding with Beth late last year and earlier this year, so the company has at least have two experienced workers?  Why not try to get Trish or Lita in for a 1 time surprise shot deal for Mania?

It comes down to this - Ashley posed for Playboy previously and the match is as much a promotional tool for WWE's Playboy partnership as it is anything else.  Neither Trish nor Lita have shown any interest in making a return to the company and honestly, bringing them back on what is guaranteed to be the biggest show of the year would be a waste of time, because you want to use them when their return would make a positive difference for the company.

Wouldn't you consider the Battle Royal move to WWE.com a bait and switch?

No, because the company announced it ahead of time.  It's not as if you ordered the PPV and found the match didn't air.  That actually happened at Starrcade '88, believe it or not.  They advertised a Bunkhouse Stampede and then went off the air before the match took place.  In this case, WWE is airing the match, for free, on their website, so they can make the argument that they are giving away a piece of their top show of the year for free

Whatever happened to CW Anderson?

For the most part, Anderson has retired, although he did a few shows for Hermie Sadler's UWF last year since they were literally two feet from his home in North Carolina.  He's taken on a career outside of the business and I believe has gotten engaged, so he's happy and moving on to the next stage of his life.
