How do you feel about the expectations of the Taker-Edge match for WrestleMania? Of course Taker always brings it, but for a truly excellent WrestleMania main event both superstars need to pull out all the stops. I don't want to knock on Edge, because I do enjoy him, but he only seems to "excel" in gimmick matches (TLC, Hardcore flaming tables). So unless they add a gimmick to the match between now and then, I just don't see a standard 1-fall match being more than good/great, instead of great/excellent one expects a WrestleMania title match to be. Not even to mention that the "smart" fan isn't buying for a second Taker's WM streak will just end on a spear, so giving the match a gimmick that "suits Edge's style" can help the drama just enough to make us think Edge just might have a chance to win. Thoughts?
I totally disagree with you. Edge is a great worker and has great matches all the time. I think both men will deliver a great bout here.
Around 1993, I believe Lex Luger was to get a push as the WWF/E Champ. My understanding is that spot went to Bret Hart due to the steroid scandal. It seemed to work. So why in the current environment do they not push the "straight edge" superstar as champ?
The reason that Luger didn't get a big push as champ because the Lex Express angle never got over with WWE fans. Lex had a great build and Vince McMahon hoped he would be the next Hulk Hogan but Luger was sorely lacking in charisma so it never materialized. But, Bret was definitely given the belt as a result of Vince McMahon's federal trial since it was certainly not the time to push a hugely muscled guy. I agree that it would be just as crazy to do that now, and I think (and hope) that WWE gets that too. Randy Orton is pretty lean, as is Edge. Yes, it would be nice to see CM Punk get a larger role, but I think it's too soon to put Punk in that spot. I would like to see them begin a sustained push that could put him in the top position a year or so down the road but it's too soon to do that now.
Also who did Elijah Burke anger to get barely any offense in his last match on ECW and many other matches it seems like since the new/old breed storyline died? A year ago I thought he was supposed to be one of the big stars of ECW and now he's just another guy that gets beat all the time what happened?
That is a good question. I think the biggest part of this is the fact that Dave Lagana was his biggest proponent in ECW and once he was gone, there was no one left to lobby for him and his push has fallen through the cracks since then. To be fair, it's not like he's the first guy WWE has totally abandoned during a push. They have an annoying habit of doing that more than they should.
If you would be in the position to decide, who would you give the win in the MITB match this year?
As it is currently situated, I would have MVP win. He's new, fresh and deserves to have a chance at the top spot in the company. Everyone else has already had the chance or isn't ready for it so I would go with the new, fresh guy.
Did I actually see TNA Impact results on the WWE website or did I have too much to drink? Who, as The Rock would say, in the blue hell came up with that idea??!!
I can't speak for your alcohol consumption but yes, you did see it. I don't know who came up with the idea but it was definitely OK'd by Vince McMahon, so it's gone through the proper channels. They feel they can make their site a one-stop shopping for wrestling fans, or at least increase their page views.
