PWINSIDER Q&A: WHY TERRY FUNK SHOULD WRESTLE ONE MORE MATCH, TNA BROADCASTING IMPACT LIVE AND MORE

Any chance of Terry Funk coming back for one more match?

I spoke to Terry Funk this past Fall, and he was adamant to me that he really was retired.  That said, as long as Terry Funk is alive, there's a chance of one more match.  Personally, I think it would be great if Funk wrestled at least one more match, since with the recent retirement of his brother Dory, it would mean that Terry Funk wrestled a match after all three men that were involved in his "first retirement match" for All Japan in 1983 (he teamed with Dory against Stan Hansen & Terry Gordy) were no longer wrestling!  Plus, this summer would be the 25th anniversary of that retirement match!

My question is about when the "Gaijin" travel to Japan. Are there expenses such as hotel, car, food, picked up by the promotion they are touring for or is it similar to the U.S. where the promoter pays for your ticket and you are responsible for getting to the arena.

Traditionally, the American wrestlers that go to work in Japan have their hotel taken care of, and are also transported to the arena (either via bus or van).  Usually they are responsible for their own food.  Of course, there are exceptions, but this is what most wrestlers have said to me is the case.

Why don't they announce the time of the fall in wrestling matches anymore?  I always felt it added a nice "realistic" touch to matches.

I agree with you, announcing the match times does add a "realistic" feeling to things.  I know WWF continued to announce match times at arena shows until the end of the 80's/early 90's, while they didn't announce it at TV tapings (probably because the matches were so short).  Then again, you rarely ever even see a time limit draw anymore, so it would appear that the "clock" has sort of lost it's importance in wrestling (unless it's an Ironman match).

What in your mind was the worst WWF/E show in history in terms of storylines and matches?

The Great American Bash 2004 immediately springs to mind.  This was the show that included such unmemorable classics as Kenzo Suzuki vs. Billy Gunn, Sable vs. Torrie Wilson, Mordecai vs. Bob Holly and Undertaker beating the Dudleys by himself and then burying Paul Bearer in concrete.  Also JBL won the WWE Title from Eddie Guerrero in a bullrope match that saw the same tired finish that we've seen in bullrope/chain/strap matches for ten years (face knocks heel into winning corner while going for it himself).

Do you think TNA will permanently broadcast Impact live soon?

I don't see it happening, although if there is some sort of massive ratings increase when TNA goes live for one week later this month, I imagine the company will consider it.
