PWINSIDER Q&A: BOBBY HEENAN, AUSTIN VS. UNDERTAKER, UK EXCLUSIVE PPVS, WWE DESTROYING THE RING FOR ANGLES & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2008-02-05 10:49:35

My question is about the main event of Summerslam 98 Austin vs. Taker I'd like to know your opinion on it I only ask because it's not on Tombstone, the History of the Undertaker DVD or the new Austin DVD I remember this as being not only one of my favorite matches but also one of my favorite paper views of all time and wanted to get the expert's opinion.

I was actually in attendance at that match and thought it was disappointing, which was partially because Steve Austin suffered a dislocated jaw just a few minutes into the match and had to gut it out.  It was solid for sure, but nothing that in my opinion was spectacular.  Still, given that it was the main event of one of the WWE's premiere events, I am surprised it hasn't popped up on DVD, but will be including when the WWE releases their Summerslam Anthology DVD box set later this year.  When they do, you'll be able to order it from our friends at www.highspots.com.

After reading a question about Booby Heenan, I was wondering about the possibility of a Bobby Heenan appearance at WM, should he be healthy enough.  Given his history with Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels, I think it would be fantastic, if this is Flair's last match, for Heenan to cost Flair the match.  It could be used to set up a Michaels heel turn and HHH feud.  What do you think the chances of this are?

At this point, I don't think Heenan's going to be making a public appearance as part of a wrestling angle.  He's just about to start physical therapy to regain some of the strength in his body after being bedridden for so long with the surgeries to repair his jaw.

What happened to the UK PPV's 'Insurrextion' and 'Rebellion'? Is there any plans to bring these (or similar) back? Do you think they would be successful should they bring them back?

There are currently no plans to bring back the British-exclusive PPVs, although I always thought they were a great idea.

Just looking at some WWE clips on YouTube, and I came across a clip of Brock Lesnar wrestling Big Show on an episode of Smackdown. They are both on the top rope and Brock superplexs Show, with the ring collapsing on the impact. Just wondering was that a planned spot or just an accident, and if it was planned, how exactly did they manage it without the ring collapsing earlier on in the show? It also reminded me of an episode of Raw when Undertaker was champion and Show was part of the J.O.B squad (I think?) and Show chokeslammed Taker through the ring. How was that one rigged?

In both cases, the ring was pre-prepared by WWE's production crew and then rigged for the stunt to go off when it was needed.  I am not sure on the Brock-Big Show stunt, but the Big Show chokeslamming the Undertaker was a Terry Taylor idea, one that he said was inspired by the infamous Taz-Bam Bam Bigelow finish at Living Dangerously 1998.

My question concerns Stone Cold. I understand his neck problem , which makes him limited to wrestling. Do you ever think that one day he could be one of the brands Manager, or will Steve just do the odd show and stick to movies.Your thoughts.

Austin will remain a semi-regular on WWE television and do additional WWE Films projects, but he has no interest in being a regular character on a weekly basis, so he'll just pop up for the major shows.
