PWINSIDER Q&A: WRESTLERS FINDING THEIR DREAM WRESTLING JOB ISN'T WHAT THEY HOPED, WHERE'S RHINO, FLAIR'S FAREWELL, EDGE VS. TAKER & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2008-02-03 10:00:42

I have often read where that it was every wrestlers ultimate dream, whether they be a man or a woman, to make it to the top of the wrestling mountain the WWE. When they finally make it however, they are faced with unusual storylines, name changes, antics of its owner Vince McMahon, a tough travel schedule, a lack of respect for their abilities in the ring, things like that. Do you think many might feel that, even though the money is great, signing with the WWE isn't as glamorous as they had thought? Have you ever heard of someone asking, "What have I gotten myself in to?"

I actually hear it all the time, mostly among those who grew up wrestling fans.  It's like any other job that you wanted as a child.  The illusion of what the job is and what it really is are two vastly different things.  I hear the same thing among friends that work in the comic book industry, so it's not something exclusive to working for WWE, or even wrestling.

My question is regarding the pending match at Wrestlemania between World Champion Edge and The Undertaker. PLEASE tell me they are not going to push it as an "Two men undefeated at Wrestlemania" match. I cringe everytime I hear a fan say Edge is undefeated at Wrestlemania. He did not win MITB last year and thus, he lost. WWE has insulted our intelligence before; I hope they don't go this for this match. They could say, "neither man has been pinned," or something like that, but to say Edge is undefeated at Wrestlemania renders every single multi-person match useless. Rey Mysterio pinned Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 22 for Kurt Angle's World Championship. Does this mean Kurt Angle did not "lose?" No. Your thoughts?

If WWE goes in that direction, it's likely they will play up that neither man has ever been pinned at Wrestlemania.  Technically, Edge didn't lose the Money in the Bank - he was "injured" and taken out, so he has an excuse, especially as a heel.'

It's been quite awhile since we've seen Rhino or Raven on TNA TV. What is the status of these two? Are they scheduled to make a return anytime soon?  Does TNA have any plans for them? Why not just form an ECW alumni faction of some sort and just put a group together of Rhino, Raven, & Team 3D and just have them running a muck in TNA claiming to be the most hardcore or something like that. It could work as a heel faction or face. What do you think?

As I mentioned on the site last week, Raven's tenure with the company is expected to end soon (at least on a contractual level; you can make a case that it's been over since Bound for Glory).  Rhino is still out dealing with some family issues and was dealing with a sore neck, but has been training for his in-ring return and is expected back once he's able to give the company his full attention.

I have a problem with the current Ric Flair storyline. If this "if you lose you're fired" story is indeed leading to his last big run culminating in his retiring after Wrestlemania, doesn't that dictate that he lose at Wrestlemania? I just can't see sending the best all around wrestler in history (IMHO) out into retirement with a loss in his last match. I suppose they could have him still win and announce that he's tired of McMahon's bullying and retire, but that would screw up the passion of his last speech where he said he would never retire. What do you think?

At this point, Wrestlemania is expected to be his last match, but as I've said numerous times, plans can always change.  I don't think Flair will have a problem losing on the way out, especially if it's someone he respects, which if the reports are correct that he will be facing Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania (which Dave Scherer mentioned last week), he'll obviously have no issue putting Shawn over.

There's an article on the TNA site saying that Christopher Daniels has been released from TNA. Is this true or is it a storyline?

100% storyline.  Daniels is expected to return in several months.  There was conversation between TNA and ROH about sending him there in order to get over the firing as legit, but ROH opted not to do it.
