Do you think WWE stretches the truth about the time for when an injured star will return to add not only a buffer for if the star takes longer than needed, but to add to a surprise appearance but the fans not expecting the return so early? I ask this because Cena was scheduled to return a lot later than presently. But maybe the WWE said a year because they wanted him to come back as a "shock" and nobody would expect it, which is the case and worked.
In general, you rarely are given a definitive return date for an injury return, since you can never tell how someone's body will heal. It usually makes sense to go with the longer estimate than the sooner one. In the case of Cena, obviously WWE knew he would be back sooner, but wisely stuck with the one year estimate, and thus created a great surprise at the Royal Rumble.
Is CM Punk the only face being pushed on ECW now? Besides him, we have Dreamer and maybe Balls Mahoney, but they are just jobbers now, and Kofi Kingston just got there and have only been facing jobbers so far. On the other hand, we have Chavo, Burke, Big Daddy V, Striker, Miz and Morrison, Benjamin. Has any roster been so unbalanced as ECW is right now?Yep, the roster is pretty much loaded up with more pushed heels than faces. That's why you see Kane on ECW almost weekly now, just to give them another top face.
I have really been enjoying the Rumble audio shows you guys have been doing. What would you consider to be your favorite/top 3 Royal Rumbles?
Granted, it is only a few days old, but I really enjoyed the Rumble this past Sunday. My other favorites would be Ric Flair's win in 1992, and the 1997 Royal Rumble won by Steve Austin.
With all of the different wrestlers who work for WWE supporting different political candidates, could you forsee WWE having a one-hour 'Smackdown Your Vote' special, where the talent who support the different candidates were to have a debate on the issues? I would think it would be an effective way to get the message across to a demographic that isn't always keen on politics, and it would get Val Venis some face time.
I'd like to see Val Venis back on TV wrestling, not talking politics. Actually, I don't want to watch any wrestlers giving political commentary, and I don't see WWE doing such a special. Any Smackdown Your Vote pushes should be (and have been) non-partisan.
I've just finished watching the Royal Rumble PPV and after the Edge vs. Rey Mysterio match I saw something which surprised me. As soon as the bell rang Edge went to the aid of Vickie Guerrero rather than first going to reclaim his title belt which seems out of character for him. Do you think the storyline could develop away from the obvious "Edge using Vickie Guerrero" and in fact go the another way? Or was this just a small lack of continuity in the Edge character?I don't think it was a lack of continuity at all. If you watch all of Edge's segments since the Vickie storyline began, Edge has never given even the slightest impression that he doesn't care about Vickie or that he is using her. He doesn't roll his eyes behind her back, always talks about his love for her, and the only hints that Edge's feelings aren't legitimate come from the announcers or the babyfaces like Rey Mysterio. Edge going to Vickie first made perfect sense for the way he has been presented in this storyline right now.
