PWINSIDER Q & A: JBL-VINCE, PIPER'S COMMENTS, FUNKIN' HALL OF FAME, FAKE STING IN WWE AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2008-01-28 10:00:00

Is JBL nearly as close to Vince McMahon as Triple H (minus the family factor)?

I don't know if that is true but I do know that JBL is very tight with Vince and Vince likes him a lot.  He thinks he's a tough guy and a man's man, which is important in Vince's world.  He is also tight with HHH, plus he's his son-in-law.  My hunch is that if he had to pick, HHH would win out.

Do you think we will ever see the Jackal (Donnie Callis) return to WWE in the future?

If I had to guess I would say no.  The guy has been available for seven years now and WWE hasn't brought him in.  Plus, I know that Callis went back to college in Canada after ECW shut down so he has probably moved on with his life.  He was writing a column for SLAM in Canada but stopped years ago.  His official website, DonCallis.com, isn't even active any more so I tend to think he has moved on from wrestling.

With Sting presumably staying put in TNA, do you think WWE should give some thought to bringing in Jeff Farmer? I mean, nWo Sting is just as good as the other one, right? Actually, an nWo Japan invasion would be totally surreal. Heck they could have him feud with Ric Flair in some kind of Black Scorpion versus Black Scorpion kind of deal.

Uh, no. And, I don't think you should have given any thought to it either, if you actually did.

After seeing Harley Race, Verne Gagne, Nick Bockwinkel and The Original sheik be inducted into the WWF/E Hall Of Fame, do you see Terry Funk getting into the WWF/E Hall Of Fame. Although he had brief runs in the WWF/E and one short WWF/E World Tag Team title Reign, He was a legend in the NWA and ECW in both of those federations as their World Heavyweight Champion. Does Terry Funk stand a chance at being inducted into the WWF/E Hall Of Fame?

He absolutely, 100% deserves it and it wouldn't shock me to see it happen.  Terry Funk is a true, true legend of this business.  Any Hall of Fame without him in it is a joke.

I'm currently reading Roddy Piper's autobiography, and it got me thinking. I recall a bit of controversy stemming from Roddy Piper's appearance on an episode of HBO's Real Sports a few years back. I've never seen the tape (and for some reason cannot find any clips online), but it is my understanding that he allegedly made some harsh remarks about the business and even lost his job with WWE at the time. So, what exactly was said? What is true and/or false about the story?

It was a piece on wrestler deaths.  The comment I remember him making that probably cost him his job was, "They're all dying" in reference to the obvious.  At the time, the HBO piece was a major pain in Vince McMahon's rear end and when Piper appeared and said that, that was it for him since it gave the appearance that Piper was agreeing with the story, saying that wrestling was killing its own.  It was a shame because I think Piper was speaking from the heart and he later said that his remarks were taken out of context.  But, the damage was done by then.
