PWINSIDER Q&A: RAW ANNIVERSARY, WWE DRESS CODE, KATO AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2007-12-01 10:00:00

Answered on 11/30

I know a lot of people are wondering what former stars will show up for the RAW Anniversary show, but wouldn't it make more sense to feature the current roster, and not try to get some sort of one-night nostalgia pop that will mean nothing a week later?

Since it is going to be a three-hour show, I don't see anything wrong with devoting some time on the Anniversary show to celebrating the past.  That said, I agree that the majority of the show should be about getting people interested in the current product, and give them a reason to tune back in the following week.

Does everybody lie about their height and weight in wrestling?

Not everyone lies, but there has always been a tendency to exaggerate the numbers and make guys seem "larger than life", especially during the 1980's, where someone near 400 pounds became a 500 pounder, and someone that was 6' 9" was "over seven feet tall".  There seemed to be an unwritten rule that you had to be at least 245 pounds to be taken seriously.

At Wrestlemania III Roddy Piper had a farewell match.  At Wrestlemania VIII Roddy Piper had a farewell match.  At Wrestlemania XII Roddy Piper had a farewell match.  Is there a point to all of these farewell matches for Piper, or is he just trying to set a new record for farewell matches?

For starters, Piper has a long way to go before he can catch up to Terry Funk for farewell/retirement matches. Wrestlemania III was a true "farewell" match, at least, it was intended to be, as Piper wanted to concentrate on his acting career.  It was over two years before he returned to wrestling (save for a Piper's Pit at Wrestlemania V) following that match.  He never said his match at Wrestlemania VIII was a "farewell" match, although he did leave the business again for a time following his loss to Bret Hart. As for Wrestlemania XII, that was a "one time only" streetfight with Goldust, and again, not promoted as any kind of "farewell" match.

What is WWE's dress code for performers?

When talent is out in the public eye, the company expects them to dress at least in business casual fashion, that being a nice shirt and pants. The company feels that it's important for the wrestlers to look as if they are "professional" in the eyes of the fans and wants them to dress accordingly.

Who was under the mask of Kato in the Orient Express?

Kato was Paul Diamond, who also teamed with Pat Tanaka in Badd Company in the AWA and ECW.
