PWINSIDER Q&A: STEVE AUSTIN'S ROLE IN WWE POST-CONDEMNED, MIZ AND MORRISON, THE IMPACT ZONE, WRESTLERS IN PUBLIC AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-12-04 10:00:03

You know, what I have always wondered about is, why doesn’t TNA get rid of a ramp, so they can fit more people in the “impact zone”? I mean I get the whole Heels come out one side and the baby faces out the other side, but I’ve heard that a good amount of people are always turned away…plus when they go on the road with PPVs they use only one ramp…just wanted your opinion.

It's possible that at some point they will, but as of right now, it's considered part of the look of the Impact Zone and the company likes having it, so it'll remain.

During a recent TNA Impact! the commentators were discussing the upcoming Turning Point pay per view during a match. While action was going on, their attention was focused on Turning Point and not on what was happening in the ring. I understand that its their job to promote the pay per view but could they do that before and after a match instead of during it? What do you think?

I discussed this once when I interviewed Don West.  The feeling is that the TV is designed to plug and promote the PPVs and the product, so the announcers do go into shill mode on the storylines and performers.  When you watch the PPVs, they try to focus more on what is going on in the ring and the matches at hand.  I understand why you question it, but sometimes it's more important to push an upcoming PPV than it is to discuss undercard performers in the ring.  It's one of those necessary evils of the business.

Is Miz and John Morrison are tag team partners that don't get along, why did they get along on ECW the week after they won the straps?

Welcome to the world of wrestling, where logic is sometimes fleeting.  I sat there watching ECW that night, since I was covering it live on the site, wondering the exact same thing.

I remember seeing a tidbit about a crossword puzzle here with Ric Flair as an answer and that got me thinking. Every once and awhile, I would see something about so and so wrestler at a football game. And? What, they can't go to a football game and not be noticed by someone? Is there news that is just too mundane to post here?

When you step into the public spotlight on any level, one of the things you'll have to expect is that your moves will be discussed.  In the case of a wrestler taking in a football game, since they are out in public, it gets mentioned and picked up.  Usually my rule is that if it's not mentioned in the media, I don't mention it on the site.  Earlier in the year, there were prominent members of a national wrestling company's management end, with their families, at the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey circus in New York City, but we didn't report it on the site because you have to tow the line of privacy and public appearances.  Had a newspaper in the New York media mentioned it, we probably would have noted it on the site because it was out there in the media, but we also understand the need for one's privacy.

What is Stone Cold doing now that his DVD has been out a while and has done about all the business it is going to do? Has the WWE made any attempt to bring him on in a non-competitive role? I have not hear of him doing any other movies or TV so is a return to the WWE all the far fetched? Obviously he can't wrestle, but a management role on TV would be good right? Think about it. When was the last time their was a GM that was actually feared, or even respected, by the wrestlers or fans? We get the coach, who often gets beaten up by the performers, and Regal who has been nothing but Vince's lap dog. What do you think of putting Austin in that role and have an actual GM with some power?

Austin is expected to still make some appearances from time to time, but still hopes to do more in the acting world, so I don't see him returning to WWE as a full-fledged week to week character.
