PWINSIDER Q&A: EDGE AND VICKIE, WWE MAKING A PLAY FOR STING, BRYAN DANIELSON, RAVEN & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-11-27 10:00:38

I just read that Sting may retire after 2007. Do you now see WWE going hardnosed to bring in Sting?  There are a lot of WWE wrestlers that, had a 1 on 1 match with Sting back in WCW. A Flair-Sting Match on PPV one more time could make for a good Wrestlemania 24 Showdown. I just cant see Sting hanging it up at this point.

I haven't heard of WWE making any major plays for Sting, but one would think that if Sting wants to do another year in the business, he'd at least consider an offer from the company.  One of the major factors that prevented Sting from wanting to go to WWE after the end of WCW was the amount of travel involved at a time when he was getting older and wanted to spend more, not less time with his family.  If WWE made him an offer to come in part-time or simply work a major PPV level bout, like the Flair match you suggested, it would be more likely.  At this point, Sting could stay with TNA or simply retire quietly.  Time will tell.

Do you have any rumor (or update) about why Raven has disappeared from TNA TV since the Monster's Ball Match at Bound for Glory?

I was told it's simply a creative decision.

How is ROH's Bryan Danielson doing since his eye surgery several weeks ago?

Danielson has returned to the ring and all accounts are that he's doing well.  Ring of Honor didn't want to clear him until his doctors felt comfortable with Danielson returning to the ring, so I would assume that's what happened.

During TNA's Thanksgiving Impact! the little girl at the kids table. Was that really Kurt and Karen Angle's young daughter? If so, weren't her parents worried to put their child through a situation where people were drinking beer and Black Reign (Dustin Runnels) had a rat on top of his head?

That was indeed the Angles' daughter and my knowledge of children that are around the business for the most part understand it's all part of a show and I don't think they saw it as exposing her to debauchery.

OK...I am sorry...but I just watched the opening to Friday Night Smackdown, and this Vickie Guerrero/Edge angle is the most tasteless, disgusting thing the WWE could do.  Eddie Guerrero must be rolling in his grave over this.  I have seen some tasteless things in my 20+ years of watching Pro Wrestling, but this takes the cake.  Am I being premature, or is this going down the road to be one of the most horrible storylines in wrestling history??

I think part of the reason that WWE opted to do the angle was to play off of the disgust that would obviously come from some fans as a way to kickstart Edge's scumbag persona in a new direction as well as put some heat on Vickie Guerrero.  While I understand why fans are disgusted, at this point, Guerrero is another character in the company, so I don't see why she would be treated any different from another performer. Morality is the last thing the company is going to worry about when they are trying to create what they believe will be intriguing storylines.  If those storylines will play on the fans' heartstrings about Eddie Guerrero, all the better.
