PWINSIDER Q&A: UNDERTAKER, HARDY, HOMICIDE, WWE VIDEO GAMES AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2007-11-23 10:00:00

In late 1995 Mabel "injured" Undertaker's face and Undertaker returned at Survivor Series wearing a protective mask. I remember him wearing the mask for a while. Was the mask used because of an actual injury or was it all part of a storyline?

It was an actual injury that was turned into a storyline.  Undertaker suffered a cheekbone injury as a result of an errant Mabel punch to the face, but WWE explained the injury by saying Mabel had crushed Undetaker's face with a legdrop.  So, when Undertaker returned to action, he wore a hard plastic mask to protect his face.

Why do some male professional wrestlers shave their underarms?

Some feel it looks better, others do it because they feel it is more hygienic, and others do it because of a combination of the two.

During the final Smackdown-show before Survivor Series, right before the big MVP/Matt Hardy-injury-angle, Jeff Hardy said to Matt in their backstage-segment "good luck with your match". So, Jeff spoiled the tag team title-defense (MVP/Matt vs. Morrison/Miz) because MVP revealed the tag match in his VIP-lounge. There is now way Jeff knows about the match, also Matt should have act surprised backstage.

You raise a good point, BUT, it could have been that Jeff Hardy knew Matt was going to challenge MVP to a U.S. Title match, and that is the "match" that Jeff was wishing Matt good luck in.

Maybe it's just me but does it seem like a good idea to have someone named Homicide in a wrestling company? Haven't there been enough homicides connected to the wrestling business this year?

Years ago, I always thought (and he felt this way too), that Homicide was never going to get a shot in a major U.S. company because of his name, his look and his size.  Well, he has managed to succeed without changing any of those things.  The name fits his "gang" character, so I don't see a reason to change it at this point.  TNA has even produced an action figure of him, so if the name isn't being censored by toy stores, I see no reason to change it now.

I have a question concerning the Smackdown Vs Raw series of video games. I know that the roster is worked out six months beforehand and the same with the moves. But what I would like to know is how much of a say does WWE have in terms of input on what game will look like in terms of the final product in areas such as match types and game modes (I know Dave Lagana writes the storylines for the game), but other than that does WWE just let THQ or Yukes do what they feel like to make the game as good as it can get year after year or is it another way of Vince showing he knows what's best for us as WWE fans?

The video game company figures out what they want to do (usually they are pretty good at taking input from fans), then they present it to WWE's merchandising and marketing department, who give it the thumbs up or thumbs down.
