PWINSIDER Q & A: JERICHO'S RETURN, HARDY AS CHAMP, MASTERS AND SMITH FAILING TESTS, LOW BUY RATES, HELMS' RETURN AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2007-11-05 10:00:00

Do you have a return date for Gregory Helms?

No, we don't.  Helms is dealing with nerve damage right now and doesn't have any timetable for his return.  He addressed the topic on his blog last week.  You can read it by clicking here.

Do you know what tests Chris Masters and Harry Smith failed and thus got suspended?

WWE did not say what the failed tests were.  I have heard something but since I can not confirm it, I will not say.  Honestly, it doesn't really matter what they were in my opinion.  Given all of the publicity that WWE has gotten lately concerning the wellness program, there is simply no excuse for anyone to fail one right now.  When the spotlight is on, everyone needs to know to be smart.

Is the low PPV buyrate for WWE Unforgiven not just an early estimation?

All buy rates that WWE releases in the quarter following their airing are from the early returns and estimates.  Over the course of the year they then adjust the numbers as later returns come in.  For the very most part, the most that WWE can expect to add to the initial number is maybe 10% so the buy rate for Unforgiven is indeed low.

I think many fans see Chris Jericho right in the title picture on Raw when he returns.  Where do you see Y2J after his return and who should be Jericho's first PPV opponent?

Know this, Jericho is not coming back to be a mid-card player.  He's coming back to be a top guy (as he should since WWE is in dire need of them).  I think he will be brought back and given a few good program wins, probably against people like Carlito.  Eventually though, he will be in the Title picture, where he belongs.  I don't think WWE will rush him back there because if they were going to, the perfect place to do so would have been after John Cena's injury.

You have said in an earlier Q+A that Jeff Hardy has to earn the trust of Vince McMahon to become WWF/E Heavyweight and/or World Champion. You mentioned that Hardy's personal problems are the main reason that he is not wearing the belt right now. Can you please explain then why Randy Orton is the WWF/E Heavyweight Champion??? He has a lot of problems too, including being named in the Signature steroid scandal! Jeff Hardy sells as much merchandise as Randy Orton. I think Jeff Hardy is as good as or even a better wrestler than Randy Orton. So, is this the simple case of "It's not what you know, It's WHO YOU KNOW"????

First off, his personal problems are the not the main reason he is not wearing the belt.  It's one of the main reasons he hasn't been considered for that spot.  There is a difference.

OK, with that out of the way, let's get to the guts of the question.  As anyone who reads this site knows, I am not the world's biggest Randy Orton fan.  I think his promos are dull, but he is a solid wrestler and has had some good matches.  Hardy is more dynamic but they are both good workers in the ring.  And yes, Orton has had problems, for sure.  But in the case of Hardy, he actually chose to quit rather that deal with his issues a few years ago.  If you are WWE, a guy that has quit on you has to go a long way to redeem himself, and frankly, it's a situation he has put himself in.
