PWINSIDER Q&A: SHAWN MICHAELS LOSING HIS SMILE, JERICHO'S RETURN, LACEY VON ERICH AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-11-11 10:02:00

I often read about Shawn Michaels losing his smile. Can you fill me in on that situation?

In 1997, Michaels was the WWF champion and was expected to drop the belt.  He suddenly announced, literally out of nowhere, that he was going to need career ending knee surgery and forfeited the title on Raw.  During the speech, he said that he had lost his smile and was going home to find it.  At the time, many of the top names in the company felt Shawn simply didn't want to drop the belt at Wrestlemania and as time rolled around, Michaels never had surgery and later returned to the ring.  In his autobiography, he claimed he was listening to one doctor without getting a second opinion.

I read recently where Lacey Von Erich took part in a match for Florida Championship Wrestling. I was surprised to have read it. It seemed only yesterday that she was signed to a WWE developmental contract and now she is wrestling. What is the progress report on Lacey Von Erich?

I've been told that as a performer she's very green but as anyone who has seen her photos can attest, she's absolutely gorgeous, which will be her focus in the company in my opinion.  I see her as more of a "Diva" and less as a "wrestler" but time will tell.

With almost everyone expecting Chris Jericho to return back to the WWE to save wrestling, is there a fear that the longer the fans wait, the more tired they will get in waiting? That when it finally does happen, the moment will not be as dramatic as it should. What do you think?

I think the exact opposite.  As long as WWE finds new ways to tease it, it'll be a big moment for the company and for Jericho.  Remember, WWE has never once said he's coming back, just teased us with the SAVE_US.222 videos.  They could easily shift gears and do something shocking with Jericho instead.

I haven't seen the video of the match between Beth Phoenix and Candice Michelle. I understood that after Michelle fell from the top rope, Phoenix dragged her back in the ring and pinned her. Why did she do that? I always understood that you never move somebody after they had fallen. What was the referee doing at the moment? Did he give the cross arms signal to the back informing the persons backstage that Candice was hurt? What was the WWE's respone to Beth Phoenix moving Candice Michelle back into the ring?

I think in hindsight everyone realizes that was a stupid mistake but at the moment, they simply made a mistake.  Everyone involved is very lucky that Michelle wasn't hurt worse by the movement.

Which former world champions that are currently still active in wrestling do you think will never be world champion again? My guess would be Rey Mysterio.

If there is any justice in this cold, cold world, The Great Khali.
