PWINSIDER Q & A: HOW MUCH POWER DOES THE NET HAVE, COMPARING BATISTA, KHALI SATELLITE INTERVIEWS AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2007-10-22 10:49:57

With the near deafening chants of "Y2J" at No Mercy, along with the many Jericho signs in the crowd, how can WWE deny the influence of the internet when Jericho's name has not been mentioned a single time on WWE television?

Well, they can deny the power of the net all they want but I think they will look like idiots if they do.  Honestly though, I don't expect them to ever publicly address the situation.  Internally, they can say that the fans are just smart and assumed it would be Jericho but I no one with any sense would buy that line.

Hey Guys, I don't want this to sound like some kind of back-handed compliment, so let me start by saying that I've been an Elite subscriber for a few years now and I love the site. My question is this: how much responsibility are you guys willing to take for declining ratings and buy rates? Granted, "Creative" hasn't been doing us any favors for a long time, but I'm a lifelong wrestling fan who now only orders Wrestlemania, goes weeks without tuning in to any of the shows, yet I'm on this phenomenal site EVERY SINGLE DAY just to keep up and get insight from you cats. Just wondering if this is becoming a recurring trend- keep up the great work!

First off, we love all kinds of compliments, so thank you.  I honestly think that if WWE were delivering the kind of product that they were before Stephanie McMahon took over the creative team (back when voices that differed and dissented from Vince McMahon were more prevalent in the process), we would be a complimentary, rather than primary, resource for fans.  When the product is great, people will watch it and then come here to get more information and commentary on the business.  When things are great, people want to watch the shows, not get "caught up" after the fact.  When the product isn't so great, and people don't have the "must see" feeling about it, we become the catch up for people.  The fans who don't watch but read this site daily love the business and care about it, so they come to us to find out what is going on with a product that they want to feel the need to watch but sometimes/often don't.  I fully believe that if WWE were to get hot again, people would watch the way that they used to.

Whenever WWE or whomever says they have a satellite interview with someone is it always a pre-taped interview or sometimes do they really have a satellite interview with someone?

It depends really.  In the case of Randy Orton last month, it was taped because he was on his honeymoon.  Generally, if a person is at TV, they pre-tape it earlier in the day and air it during the show.  If not, they do it beforehand so that the person playing off of the taped piece knows what will be coming and knows how to react.  It's very, very rare that someone actually does the interview from another location live via satellite.

Would you consider Batista the 2007 version of as Mike says Lex Luger or the Ultimate Warrior? I don't know about you, but I see way too much of the Ultimate Warrior In Batista when it comes to how he wrestles, his attitude sometimes, etc, what do you think?

Honestly, Lex Luger was pretty much a horrible worker back in his day and Batista is way better than Luger ever was.  He actually has charisma and people really care about him.  Ultimate Warrior is a more apt comparison in that respect but, even though Big Dave has not always busted it in the ring the way I would like to see him do so, he is still a much better worker, overall, than Warrior ever was.

Does the Great Khali speak English or at least understand English or do the writers just have a translator for him and tell him to blab on and on?

Yes, he does speak and understand English.  I can't say he does it well, but he does do it.
