PWINSIDER Q&A: SHAWN MICHAELS VS. HULK HOGAN, KEN KENNEDY, PWU, JAZZ & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-10-09 10:00:00

In summer 2005, HBK turned heel to work his program with Hulk Hogan, it didn't last long but I thought it was a success, and even gave HBK a different dimension to the character that returned in 2002. He feuded with Hogan, gave the sweet chin to Piper and Lawler, had an awesome heel promo in Montreal were he teased Bret's return, and even worked dark matches as a heel. The night after Raw he was suddenly turned face after losing to Hogan and began a feud with Chris Masters. Why was this? Surely they could have kept him heel for a while longer, or was it a request by HBK to turn face again?

The storyline was that Shawn Michaels wanted to see how good Hulk Hogan really was and he didn't want to hold anything back against him, so he went heel as a way to bring the fire out of Hogan.  It was never really explained, particularly since Hogan nixed any rematches, which left WWE having one of their top performers, Michaels, losing clean at one of the biggest matches of the year with no chance to regaining the loss.  That was one of the factors behind Michaels' promo the day after where he basically admitted that wrestling was a work.

I've been watching Pro Wrestling Unplugged online since they started their TV a few weeks ago and it's a nice throwback to old indy wrestling.  I was wondering if Tod Gordon founded the company like he did ECW or did he come along after?

Pro Wrestling Unplugged was actually formed three years ago by what was one of the top tag teams on the Northeast independent wrestling scene at the time, Johnny Kashmere and Trent Acid.  The two had a falling out with their primary home Combat Zone Wrestling and after a short ROH run, opted to open their own school and promotion.  Over time and trial and error, it's grown from a small group running empty bars and wrestling school shows to a group that draws 500 in the former ECW Arena.  Gordon came along about a year or so ago and has brought his own expertise to the company.  For more on the promotion, visit www.prowrestlingunplugged.com.

Isn't ODB the OVW womans Champion?  The website has her as the champion and yet she will be appearing in TNA?  How is that possible?  Can anyone working in OVW also work for TNA?  Just wondering or did I miss that she was let go and the OVW Website was never updated.

Since the question was submitted, ODB lost the OVW Women's championship to Milena Roucka.  Since ODB was never under a WWE developmental deal, she is free and clear to work anywhere she pleases, including the TNA Bound for Glory PPV, where she will take part in the Gauntlet match to crown the first TNA Knockouts champion.

[Website deleted] is reporting that you have said that former WWE wrestler Jazz has been acquired by TNA Wrestling. Just checking in with you to see it this is true or not.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of sad, pathetic websites out there that feel the need to make up false news and credit to reliable sources in order to attempt to trick their readers into believing false stories.  Why they would waste their time doing this and hurt whatever goodwill they have with whatever readership follows their sites is beyond me, but in any event, no I didn't report it and if you don't see me writing about it here on PWInsider.com, consider it false.

Regarding today's QandA about Ken Kennedy, Even though he might have done the same thing while announcing basketball games, he is still taking it from Boxing. For many years in boxing, and in some venues today, it was/is normal for the announcer to repeat the last name.  This is definitely a boxing thing and not something Kennedy came up with.

It may have been done in boxing, but Kennedy doing it in WWE is a takeoff of himself doing it for other players while announcing in college.
