PWINSIDER Q&A: HURRICANE DURING WRESTLEMANIA 24?, TOD GORDON'S ECW LAWSUIT, WRESTLING TV SERIES ONLINE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-10-07 10:00:10
If there was a forecast for a hurricane to strike Orlando, Florida next year on the day before, or on the same day, of Wrestlemania 24, would the WWE be forced to cancel the event? If so, does the WWE have an alternate site for Wrestlemania 24 just in case such a thing happens?

Hurricane season in Florida is traditionally June through November, so while there's always a chance of rain, a hurricane doesn't seem likely

Does the Predictability of a wrestler--set number of signature moves and/or finisher in a certain order make a wrestler stale? I think it does and I think MMA has gained fans because no one can predict what will happen. Does the same basic body style (w/limited exceptions)  of wrestlers hurt WWE and TNA.

This would be the first time I've heard of that theory being applied to MMA, but I could see that point of view.  I do think that a limited moveset could lead to performers being one dimensional over time, but the WWE mentality has always been to create characters and give them unique moves and attributes as to not confuse the audience.

We always see angles where one wrestler "breaks" a part of another wrestler's body (like when HHH broke Big Show's hand with a sledgehammer). Their bones aren't really broken, are they? Some of them look pretty real. And WWE cant go to a performer and  tell them they need to break a bone tonight, can they?

When a wrestling company does an injury angle, it's always part of the storyline and there's no real injury.  The angles are done for dramatic effect or to cover a legitimate injury or time off for the performer.

I was wondering, was there a ruling on the lawsuit that Tod Gordon filed against WWE, claiming he was the rightful owner of the Eastern Championship Wrestling section of the ECW tape library?

Yes, and we reported it when it happened.  Basically, the judge presiding over the case decided that the bankruptcy court had made the decision previously that the entire library was "ECW" not separate Eastern and Extreme libraries and opted to throw the case out.  Gordon's side was never given a chance to plead their case before the judge - his argument was that he never sold Eastern to Paul Heyman, but had allowed him to hold the video library and use it as part of Extreme, but that library should never have been sold to WWE by the bankruptcy court.  Gordon could technically have appealed, but he made the decision to not continue pursuing the case.

Recently Pro Wrestling Unplugged got a local-ish television deal, and are simulcasting the shows for a week online via Google Video. That got me to thinking, are there any other smaller-type companies that run what could be considered a weekly show online somewhere? I know Ring of Honor and CHIKARA have YouTube channels and put up podcasts with the occasional match, but I'm looking for something a bit "bigger".

There are several companies that have been doing it.  Sheldon Goldberg's New England Championship Wrestling was the pioneer in that regard as they have the longest running TV series online for pro wrestling.  You can find out more information via http://www.necwwrestling.com/
