Do you think if WCW had marketed it video tape library as effectively as WWE does today, the profits from tape sales would of offset the losses they made in 1999 - 2001? And if so, do you think they would still be in business today?
No, and not because of the lack of video sales, because I think they would have done well. However, you have to look at the overall picture. First of all, the DVD format was just expanding in the marketplace as WCW was falling apart. Wrestling video sales have exploded because of the DVD format, since the restraints of VHS tapes (you can't really make a VHS three hours long without risking breakage and sacrificing quality) I think held back wrestling videos. So, there never would have been the huge sales we see today. That said, even with great video sales, WCW's losses at that point were huge, and I don't think video sales would have filled up the pit enough. The company was going to be sold, one way or another.
Why hasn't WWE released WCW and ECW versions of their taped classics? Surely that would be a HUGE money maker.
WWE seems to be focusing on quality releases, rather than just chugging out old PPV events and VHS tapes and cluttering the marketplace with releases. Personally, I would like to see them release more of the older footage, and I think it would sell, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards.
Has anyone opened up a question to you guys with the line, "Hey guys, hate the site?"
Sure. Depending on what kind of mood I'm in, I will either a) delete the email, b) ask them to explain why they hate it and to offer suggestions to improve it, or c) write back "Well, you're still reading my site, so na-na-na-na-nah!"
I just returned to the us after a month away and was checking the various superstars pages on wwe.com to catch up on the latest transfers and firings. On the Smackdown page there is a bio for King Leonidas which I assume to be a spoof. What the heck is it doing there?
He's a former Cruiserweight Champion. He beat Chavo Guerrero, then Hornswoggle beat him for the belt while you were away.
Seriously, it's just part of an ad campaign for the movie "300". Personally, I think it is just goofy.
A while back Chris Jericho said that he is ready to get back into wrestling full time for any of the 3 major companies being WWE, TNA, or ROH. What is your guess as to where he will end up and when?
It all depends on what Jericho wants to do. If he wants to go back to a full time schedule, then he'll go to WWE. It's obviously the place where he can make the most money, but it also will probably require a bigger commitment. If he just wants to work a lighter schedule and make good paydays, then TNA. If he has an itch inside of him to just have great matches, he could go to ROH. Obviously, they have the least to offer from a financial perspective. If I had to guess, I would say WWE will be where he goes, even if it is just for a short term program. As for when, that it totally up in the air. He's not signed anywhere, so at this point, it isn't looking to happen in the immediate future.
