PWINSIDER Q&A: SHAWN MICHAELS' RETURN, OLDEST ACTIVE WRESTLERS, EUGENE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-07-29 10:00:01

It seems like there are a lot of older people wrestling who you wouldnt think could still wrestle due to their bodies being unable to take bumps at their age such as Terry Funk, Ric, Flair, and Abdullah the Butcher. I was wondering if you happen to know who the oldest person to wrestle a match is or was.

Currently, it's likely Gypsy Joe or Abdullah the Butcher, both of whom are still very active on the independent wrestling scene.

When Nick Dinsmore first came into WWE with the Eugene Character and feuded with HHH and Evolution, and teamed with Regal, was there a big main event push in mind for him? After all, they don't give a Summerslam match with HHH to just anybody.

No, what you saw was pretty much Dinsmore's main event push.  Looking at how the character is presented today, you'd never guess that during that period, he was one of the hottest babyfaces in the company.

I remember as a teenager how much anticipation & excitement I had when "The Great American Bash" was almost an entire summer affair. House shows felt more important because they were & the NWA would hype it all summer long. Do you think this is something WWE should adopt, perhaps not all Summer but at least during the month of July? I know some would say it may take away from Summerslam but I miss the old Crockett days when the "GAB" actually meant something.

I don't see WWE ever hyping the house shows in that fashion because it would detract from promoting the next PPV and that's their prime revenue source.  The house shows are secondary in many ways.  I could see them branding a house show tour with a specific name, but in terms of pushing house shows as something more important than they currently stand, no way.

What are your thought on a "Loser comes to Friday Night SmackDown! Match" between King Booker and Mr. Kennedy??? I think, both guys would be great additions to the smackdown-brand and could be quickly in the title picture there.

In hindsight, Kennedy should be moved back to the Smackdown brand, where he could really flourish as a top name on the brand, so that could be a good way of getting him there.  I don't see it happening anytime soon, however.

Love the site, keep it up!  Ok, this is a compounded question. You've probably answered parts of this question already, or maybe you haven't.  Was the whole thing of Shawn Michaels getting the concussion at the hands of Randy Orton just a way to get him off TV for a while to heal his injured knee or was it legitimate?  And, if so, have you heard of when he is scheduled to return?  Finally, when he does return, do you see him and Triple H doing anything more with DX, since it was such a big money maker, or has DX finally had its last run?

Michaels' concussion was a storyline exit so he could have his knee issues taken care of.  He's tentatively expected to return sometime this fall.  I don't see the DX unit being put back together anytime soon as the plan is to use the HHH "King of Kings" character, but they could always build to a reunion down the line as a PPV draw.
