PWINSIDER Q&A: EDGE'S RETURN, JAMIE NOBLE, PAYDAYS FOR PPV DARK MATCHES AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-07-22 09:00:31

First off, great work on the site. I had a question about tag team matches in TNA. I watched Victory Road last night and thought it was good, but is tagging in and out not matter any more? I mean, as good as a visual as it was to have Joe and Angle both doing the Ankle Lock, both members of Team 3D shouldn’t be able to tap out at the same time. I think the ending was Joe over Ray when Angle and Devon were the legal men.  I know that this is how Main Event bouts go in TNA, but does this annoy anyone else?

It's not that it doesn't matter as much as logic dictates that "in the heat of action" sometimes the referees give some leeway.  I don't have a problem with it personally as much as you, but I do think that less means more so it should only happen from time to time, not on a regular basis.  I actually thought 3D vs. Angle and Joe was one of the better TNA PPV main events in recent months.

I was just wondering what role (if any) Jim Cornette has behind the scenes at TNA. Has he got any sort of political power when it comes down to booking, talent acquisition etc, or is he purely an on-screen talent (which would be a waste in my opinion if this is the case) ?

Officially, he's just an on-screen talent, although he's helped out with the production of vignettes and has given his input for ideas.

Do the wrestlers who get the PPV dark matches, like Ric Flair at Wrestlemania this year and Jim Powers during the Doink the cartoon era, get compensated like the wrestlers competing on the televised show?

They get paid based on a percentage of the gate and via DVD royalties.  They wouldn't get paid based on the PPV unless they appeared on the show itself, which is why you'll see 10,000 cameos at Wrestlemania.  The company tries to shoehorn everyone in so they have a chance to be on the show.

Jamie Noble in last week's battle royale was pretty funny, but at the same time, he's a tough guy. Do you think that WWE might give him a gimmick like Crash and Bob Holly did where they were trying to be "super heavy weights"? I think he do a good job with it, especially with the number of super heavy weights on Smackdown.

I haven't heard of any plans to give Noble that type of character, but it couldn't hurt to give a really talented guy another dimension to help him stand out.  Noble was the highlight of the entire episode for me.

It has been reported that Edge will have surgery to repair the torn pectoral muscle he suffered in a match on Smackdown in New Orleans. It was estimated that he would be sidelined up to four months. Its now July 21st. Four months from now it will be November.  What is the possibility that Edge could wait until after the Christmas holiday, the first of next year, to return to the ring, to insure that the torn pectoral muscle is fully healed, instead of taking the chance and reinjuring it again in a match?

Until he has surgery, it's really hard to pinpoint when he'll be able to return.  As far as the company holding him out, that's a creative issue.
