PWINSIDER Q & A: CRAZY CREATIVE, RATINGS, WHAT IS MISSING FROM WWE AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2007-07-11 10:00:00

I seem to be going crazy. A couple of weeks ago when Carlito turned on both Torrie and Flair. Lawler's comments were like Carlito did a vile thing and on last night's Raw he was for Carlito. In other words it seems like every couple of months Lawler is either for the faces or he roots for the heels. Can't creative just have Jim Ross be for the faces and Lawler for the heels and leave it at that!!!!!!

Wait a second, WWE creative doesn't make sense to you and you think YOU are crazy?  That, my friend, actually proves you are sane!  To be fair though, Lawler does a lot of that stuff on his own.  I do agree that he should be more consistent though.

With all the feedback you have gotten from these past two Monday nights about how disgusted people are with the angle of Vinnie is dead, have you ever thought to e-mail someone in WWE with actual fan response - I was thinking maybe you guys had an in there - you could maybe somehow get it to Linda's laptop!

At the risk of sounding pompous, we don't have to.  Everyone who's anyone in WWE monitors this site very closely.  If we write something, they read it, despite their claims to the contrary.  So, there is no reason to send it to anyone.

Everybody is looking for the newest TV-ratings for WWE raw to see, if the controversial (controversy creates indeed cash) Vince McMahon- storyline is a success. They have 3 hours next Monday, so this has to be count by other standards. Is 3.8 for 3 hours as good as a 4.2 for 2 hours.

The way I look at is this.  You have to compare the 9 to 11:06 hours from week to week against each other.  The 8 p.m. hour, when it happens, always is lower due to the fact that some people just tune in at 9 out of habit and miss the first hour.  So, it all depends what they do during their "normal" time period to me.  Those are usually up on the three hour shows because the head start does help and also the three hour shows are generally "special" broadcasts, which attract more casual viewers.

Do you think that The Vince McMahon Angle would be a way to bring back a former star from the past such as Chris Jericho?

That wasn't the plan.  The last plan I heard, before the angle was dropped, was that Ken Kennedy was going to be aligned with Vince.  It would be a cool way to bring back a former star, but since said star already has an established name, it probably does make more sense to elevate a talent by having Vince, at least in theory, give him the rub.

It seems to me that just a few years ago during the attitude era wrestling was much more entertaining and fun to watch, but I noticed that all levels of wrestlers lower, mid, upper, and main eventers all had story lines and backstage camera time.  What happened?

The creative process changed due to Vince Russo and Chris Kreski leaving.  Stephanie McMahon then took over and changed the way that creative wrote its TV.  The new process took away a lot of the spontaneity and improvisation aspects away from the workers and also took a more button-down, things go through too many channels corporate approach.  Now, things are overly scripted to the point where they write out entire promos for guys in most cases and they are out there just reciting lines.  They also lost their long-term direction and began to only focus on the guys at the top of the cast.  It's also obvious that Stephanie shares her father's penchant for wanting to "make movies" instead of book wrestling shows, much to the product's dismay.  I agree with you.  They should book more fun and kill the sappy drama stuff but they think otherwise.

By comparing TV then vs. now, it's very clear what happened and which is better.  The shame is that WWE doesn't do anything to try and fix it.
