PWINSIDER Q&A: PUNK VS. NITRO, TIME LIMITS, RAW AT THREE HOURS, SILENT WRESTLERS SPEAKING & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-07-03 12:05:00

This question has a spoiler in it. In WWECW Sabu talked, now in TNA, Abyss talked. Do you think this is good or bad? I think it's bad. I think it takes away the mysique after all this time.

It depends on how it is presented.  In WWE's ECW, they had Sabu talk like he was any other wrestler, wiping away years of this animalistic, aerial monster.  We need to see how Abyss' speaking is treated before we can comment.

I just read were they might expand Raw to three hours . Do you think it would be good to have the first hour focus on just the cruiserweights with some good fast paced action?

The Raw expansion has been discussed, but it's not something WWE wants as the last thing they are interested in doing is giving away yet another hour of free programming while their PPV buyrates are in decline.  I like the idea of a standalone Cruiser show, but not a complete hour of programming as part of Raw because the way WWE treats the Cruisers, fans will treat it like a throwaway.

I have been watching old NWA shows and PPV's on WWE 24/7 and I just want to say I am really sorry I missed watching this organization. My question is why don't matches have time limits anymore except for the iron man matches. I know that hardly any matches these days go for more than 12-15 minutes and even less on the weekly programming, but even having a 15 minute time limit could probably limit the screwjob finishes. I also think it would keep both wrestlers strong after the match and keep the storylines building for an eventual clean finish.  Your thoughts?

I agree but a lot of times, WWE formats their TV so they don't have many matches running through commercial breaks as they don't want to lose the audience's attention.  It's just something that's evolved as the business became more of a TV entity and less of a pseudo-sport.

All the recent talk about The Ultimate Warrior made me wonder. Since they used to be partners, what is Sting's relationship with/attitude about The Warrior? They were partners before the Warrior got really weird so I just wondered if anyone had ever asked Sting about it.

The two don't get along.  Sting has never said much about it publicly but when they did a signing a few years ago in New York City, Warrior didn't want to appear at the same time as Sting (or others booked), much less stay at the same hotel as the other talent.

What do you think, is Johnny Nitro a short time-champion and the ECW World Title goes to CM Punk soon or does WWE let Nitro now run with the ball?   In my opinion, Nitro is the absolute right choice and Punk is not in his league.

I see Nitro as the heel champion and since the story is in the babyface chase of the belt, that probably means Nitro will get a longer run as Punk pursues.  Quite frankly, it's the best choice for the brand at this point and time.
