PWINSIDER Q&A: OLD SCHOOL PROMOS, A BAD IDEA FOR WWE, TOO MANY PPV EVENTS AND MORE

I've been trying to catch a bit of the old NWA World Championship Wrestling shows on WWE 24/7 to see what that era was like (I’m only really familiar with WWE). I’ve noticed something that is kind of interesting to me, and perhaps you can explain it a bit. Often when someone like Ric Flair or Dusty Rhodes is interviewed (among others), they’ll mention three or four guys who seem to be unrelated, but they act as though they’re feuding with each one. For example, Flair might come out and rant about Rhodes for a bit, but before he’s done, he’ll say something like, “Oh and for you, Magnum TA and Ron Bass …” as though he was feuding with those two as well. Is that what the NWA was like back in the day? Where a wrestler could have three or four unrelated feuds all going on at once? Sounds like, if it was done right and wasn’t convoluted or hard to follow, it would make things interesting.

It wasn't that a wrestler had numerous feuds going on, but rather that they were facing different opponents on upcoming shows, especially in the case of Flair during his NWA World Title run.  Remember, TV in those days was all about promoting the live events.  Flair may have been feuding with Rhodes, but he might also have title defenses scheduled on spot shows with Magnum TA or Ronnie Garvin, so it made sense to mention the other opponents and put them over as well.

How is TNA doing financially? I mean are they doing ok. Also, if they were to lose Panda energy, would that be the curtain call for them, unless they get another sponsor.

TNA is a privately owned company, so they don't have to issue their numbers to the public, the way WWE does.  I highly, highly doubt the company is profitable at this point in time.  There just isn't enough revenue streams to make up for their expenses at this point.  If Panda Energy were to pull the plug on TNA, they would definitely shut down, unless another sponsor could be found.

My question is surrounding Mr. McMahon's "Death" now I'm sure you have gotten hundreds of questions regarding this but mine is more of a what if/could it happen type thing. I've worked up this scenario about how things could unfold.  People as we see it right now are pushing this angle towards "Who killed McMahon" while completely ignoring the fact that WWE keeps saying "Mr. McMahon is PRESUMED" dead not that he is. Presumed and confirmed are 2 completely different things. Monday night was suppose to be Vince Appreciation night of all things. When his appreciation night was rejected, he faked his own death to get people to recognize him (even though their not). To add onto the strangeness, there was that rumored Rey/Vince feud going into SummerSlam. Now purely what if, but what if the storyline isn't a "who killed McMahon" thing since, WWE, has stressed over and over again "we don't do murder angles" so what if their playing us. This could be the perfect set up for that Vince/Rey feud I mentioned. Vince could come out @ like Vengance, and people would be surprised. Nobody sees it coming. They're looking one way exploiting the "hes dead! who killed him" but he isn't dead. He returns. Making him even more hated by the general public by faking his own death for their attention and satisfaction. THUS brings out Rey Mysterio. Bringing up the hopefully buried Eddie stuff saying by faking his death he has spit on the face of all those wrestlers who have died to young [i.e Owen, Eddie, others] and giving them a solid feud that could go all Summer or Fall for that matter. Now this could be just me in fantasy book mode and giving the WWE creative way to much credit but it seems feasible. Surprising. Intriguing. The whole 9 yards my question is this. Do you see this happening or even if it doesn't don't you think it could be a good storyline?

If WWE were to associate this storyline in any way, shape or form with the tragic deaths of Eddie Guerrero, Owen Hart or any other wrestler who passed away before his time, it would be the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in professional wrestling (and that covers a lot of ground).  I do think "Vince faked his death" is a definite possible outcome for the storyline though.

Do you think there are too many PPV's in WWE and not enough time in between them? With the draft finished, many superstars who were feuding with title holders got put on other brands, and now with only 2 weeks left until Vengeance, it seems like many of the matches will be just thrown together, which is sad seeing as how a PPV featuring every title being defended sounds like it would have been good.

I absolutely think there are too many PPV events, and was glad to see WWE pull the December To Dismember off the schedule.  Honestly, I think 12 events a year is enough, and even then I would appreciate more time to build up the shows.  However, WWE wants to figure out ways to cram 14 or 15 a year in there, and eventually they will.  As for Vengeance, your point is proven just by looking at the match announced this past Monday.  WWE Champion John Cena vs. Mick Foley vs. Bobby Lashley vs. King Booker vs. Randy Orton.  If that doesn't scream "thrown together" then nothing does.

It was reported that the Steve Keirn WWE Training facility would be called Florida Championship Wrestling. Doesn't someone else own the rights to that name? Just curious.

There was a Florida Championship Wrestling before, an independent company, but I believe they haven't run an event since 2004. That group actually got some local press when the mayor of Davie, Florida was involved in a match.
