PWINSIDER Q&A: WWE HOUSE SHOWS, INDIA, HAIR VS. HAIR MATCHES, WWE OWNING RIGHTS TO JAPANESE EVENTS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-06-05 09:00:00

A few years back, WWE ran a Raw house shows in India. What were the feelings of the workers and the company regarding those house shows. Also, are they planning to do any house shows here. I remember Rey Mysterio came to India a few months back but that was just a part of his Asian Trip.

I remember the feeling among many of the wrestlers were that everything but the actual shows were a real hardship and no one was really happy about the prospect of returning due to the travel involved and the local conditions.  I haven't heard of any plans to return to India but if the planned international expansion goes through in late 2008, it will be more likely.

I have been a fan of your site for last 2 years now. My question today is a quite funny one... I am just curious about the wrestlers who lose their hairs in a wrestling match. Why don't they all allow their hairs to grow back. Is it their personal decision or are they bound to stay in the new look because of company restrictions. Workers like Big Show and Vinnie Mac have allowed their hairs to grow back where as we have seen wrestlers like Kurt Angle staying bald and also Eric Bischoff who had all his hairs turned white in just one night when we had seen him in black ever since. What's your say about it???

In the case of some, they maintain the bald look in order to put over the stipulation.  In others, they were interested in changing their look, often due to going bald naturally.  While there is likely an unwritten rule to maintain the bald look shortly after the match, but I've never heard of a performer wanting to grow their hair back and not being allowed.

Does WWE own the footage to the NJPW/AJPW/WWF "JAPAN-U.S. WRESTLING SUMMIT"  Supershow that took place on 4/13/90 at the Tokyo Dome? If so, could you see WWE ever releasing that show on DVD or at least some matches on specific
wrestler DVD? I haven't seen all of the show, but Savage/Tenryu and
Hogan/Hansen were both good matches.

I don't know if they own the rights to the entire show, but WWE does indeed have at least the matches involving their talents within their tape library.  Some of the matches have been released on older Coliseum Video releases, including the aforementioned Hulk Hogan vs. Stan Hansen match.  I don't see a DVD release in the future, but possibly a WWE 24/7 airing of parts of the show.

After recently hearing the song "My Last Breath" by Evanescence I recognized that it was the current theme Christian Cage uses in TNA. I'm sure that it is a cover by some band, which is how he is able to use it. But if that is the case, why doesn't TNA just cover other songs they would like to make into themes instead of those barely recognizable other themes they use?

It's likely easier and cheaper to retain the rights to the music they currently use for DVD, video game, cable, PPV, etc. then it would be to garner major musical artists.

My question deals with house shows.  How tightly formatted are they?  For example, let’s say Benoit and MVP want to do 40 minutes for whatever reason would they actually be allowed to go out and do it?  I would think that if the younger guys are ever going to learn the craft they need the ring time so what better place than the house shows.

Most house shows are formatted to run around 2 hours and 40 minutes, including an intermission.  The performers are told how long they have to go by agents.  Performers could request to go long on a show, but chances are WWE will want them to make less mean more and go shorter to prevent possible injuries and not tire themselves out when they have more dates including weekly TV to perform on.
