PWINSIDER Q & A: WHY ORTON IS STILL IN WWE, VINCE GIVING AWAY SPOILERS, EDGE'S CHAMPIONSHIP RUN, NWO ANGLE IN TNA, PWINSIDER BOOK AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2007-05-27 10:51:00

I keep reading about RVD's contract ending soon, and the possibility of him jumping ship to TNA. Even if he gets the belt from Vince at some point, it might not make him happy. I've also read other ECW originals are fearful of their contracts expiring. This reminds me of when the Radicalz jumped from WCW to WWE. I know Dreamer has had other jobs with WWE, and that Sabu & the Sandman were already in TNA. do you think we could possibly be seeing a new invasion of ECW (minus the name of course) in TNA? If done like the nWo invasion (drawn it out over time and executed correctly) it could add more depth to TNA's storylines and fan base.

I don't see Rob getting the belt, first off!  Everyone is moving forward as if he will be gone at the end of June and I don't see a last minute settlement this time.  As for an invasion angle, honestly I don't see it doing any business.  After all, you are talking about non-pushed guys from WWE's distant third brand doing the invading.  It's not like the nWo, where top WWF guys came in to WCW.  I think if they did the angle, it would come off as lame, not effective.  I think that if he goes to TNA, it makes more sense to allude to Rob's past and history and just go in the new direction.

With this week's Smackdown "spoilers" on ECW, you've posted articles and keep mentioning they contain spoilers. Surely, as producers of the show, WWE gets to decide when something enters the public domain. So, as part of their own program the news of Edge winning the title on Smackdown title was made public information on ECW. Surely, since they put it out there on a TV show (i.e. not on their "news" website), it is not a spoiler?

Wow, Vince McMahon would love you because you are saying that he knows what you want better than you do.  Just because Vince says it's not a spoiler, doesn't make it so.  Not everyone thinks the way you do.  There are a number of people who feel that until they see something happen on Smackdown with their own eyes, hearing about it beforehand is a spoiler.  We received a number of emails from people who were really ticked off at WWE for blowing the surprise for them.  So, out of respect for our readers, we clearly mark items like that one as spoilers.  We feel it's the right thing to do.

You answered a question about Edge hopefully not being a transitional champion the other day, but do you think WWE will keep it on him until Wrestlemania? I was thinking that he has quite few ready made feuds - Matt Hardy's win over Kennedy gives a reason to reignite their rivalry, Batista of course wants a title shot, Kane may want to avenge his brother. Benoit, well, just for the good matches they could have. Then you have Kennedy and the Undertaker who Edge shafted to get the belt in the first place. I could see (maybe WWE creative wouldn't but...) Undertaker putting Edge over at the Royal Rumble, with Kennedy having returned earlier and Edge told him he has to start from the bottom, he wins the rumble match itself...Mania main event sorted. Am I dreaming?

I agree that he has a lot of programs he can have on Smackdown.  I agree that he is a great choice to be champion.  I also think his odds of holding the title for a while have increased by leaving Raw, and also by the recent spate of injuries.  With that said, he was a last minute choice to be champion so it's not like him winning the belt was a long term plan.  I can see him holding it for a while but I don't know if it will last until Mania.

Have you guys ever considered writing a book about the wrestling business? During your hotlines you all (even Mr. McGrath) tell great stories about things you witnessed in the past or heard about first hand. Since you guys are probably the leading truthful authority in the wrestling business today, it would be great if you guys wrote a book about past events (and at the same time I wouldn't be questioning if the story is a shoot or a work).

We have kicked the idea around a bit and I have talked to a few publishers about doing a few projects but to be brutally honest, the money that the publishers offer is just not worth the effort it would take to do the book.  It would take a lot of time to collate the information, lay the outline, write, re-write, tinker, etc.  For a fair amount of money, it may be worth doing.  Working really hard for relatively little money just to say "I wrote a book" is not.

Plus, in addition to not being worth it financially, any time we spent on a book would take away from the site, which we don't want to do.  We will just continue to do what we do here.

My question concerns Randy Orton. Although I don't know the exact details of his actions on the European tour, I know it isn't the first time he has gotten in trouble with WWE management for his juvenile behavior. How is it possible that he still has a job ? In my opinion, he's not a very good in ring performer, and he isn't a very good promo either, and seems to be more of a liability than an asset. And now, it looks like he's getting another push. Is it because he is "grandfathered in" ? If not for his lineage, would he even have gotten the opportunity with WWE that he obviously doesn't appreciate ?

How is possible?  Well, for one thing he has a big body.  For another, he got endorsed by Triple H back in the Evolution days.  The recent rash of injuries has helped him as well.  But, the main reason he is still around right now is that they have a program planned for him with Triple H when the H returns from his injury so that protects him from a lot.
