PWINSIDER Q&A: WHAT IF ANDRE BEAT HOGAN AT WRESTLEMANIA, OLE ANDERSON, SAMOA JOE NOT BEING A TOP TNA NAME & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-05-06 10:59:00
Since it would appear that Undertaker will be dropping the belt at the next taping do you believe, upon his return, he would be allowed another run with the World title?  I freely admit that I'm a huge Taker mark and after an amazing performance at Royal Rumble and the program leading up to his title win at Wrestlemania, it really saddens me to see him lose it to injury.  Having been with the company a good 17-18 years and having held the a World title only a handful of times, and working a part-time schedule for the most part, I would think that the run he had just started would be one of his last.  From what I've read I don't think Taker has ever been the type to push to have the title like some other guys.  Given the circumstances, in your opinion, would he be granted another title run when he's healthy?

He's well loved within the company by management and has long been seen as the "go to" guy when they need someone strong in a role, so I could see him getting another run down the line.  The interesting story there would be whether that after this injury, would WWE want to invest in a long-term reign for him?  That's something we'd have to wait and see.  It all depends on the landscape when he returns.

With all the Four Horsemen nostalgia still red hot over the years, where's Ole Anderson? It feels like all promotions are wary or unwilling to even acknowledge him.  What's going on here?

Ole is retired but still makes occasional appearances.  He'll be at the NWA Legends convention in Charlotte, NC this August.  For information, visit www.NWALegends.com.  He turned down the opportunity to be interviewed for the WWE DVD as there's a long standing dislike on his part after WWF took over Georgia Championship Wrestling.

Hey I was wondering could there will ever be a Jim Ross DVD with the best matches he has announced over or wrestled in and about his early life?

I think that would make a really unique and interesting DVD release, but most likely WWE wouldn't release it, feeling Ross wouldn't sell DVDs based on his name.  I absolutely love the idea though.

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but what supernatural alien force is stopping TNA from moving Samoa Joe to the upper echelon and keeping him there?  I try and tell myself a number of reasons that I run through my head and none of them fit.  His look wouldn't seem to play too much of a factor once people (read: "Casual" Fans who don't know TNA) see just one match from him and what Joe is capable of athletically.  Yes, he's not an ex-WWE or ex-WCW name, but his matches with Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett, and Kurt Angle and any of his performances when he's been in the main event have proved he can hang with the best of them, and the so-called "big names" are willing to make him look credible.  And him being a "Ring of Honor guy" isn't a factor anymore.  So, what, in your expert opinion is it?

It's an odd situation.  Everyone I speak to within TNA feels that Joe is the long term future of the company but for whatever reason, they won't pull the trigger.  I've heard everything from ROH to his look not being accessible to new casual fans to it's not time yet to the one hour timeslot on as to excuses, but the truth in my opinion is, the current booking regime doesn't know how to book him as well as the previous regime.  Instead of being a focused character, he's like the other TNA main players who slide in and out of main events with no real start or end to the stories, and that's a shame because he's truly something special.  I don't think it's him personally they are holding back, but instead it's the creative process holding the overall company back.

The official WWE web site recently had a "What if?" segment where 5 current WWE wrestlers were asked what if Hogan never slammed Andre at Wrestlemani III? I pose another question to you: What if Andre won the match and the title? How do you think the then-WWF would have changed or evolved? And was there ever any thought within the company, that you know of, where Andre would actually become WWF champion and Hogan would later gain his revenge at Wrestlemania IV?

They would have built to a rematch where Hogan regained the title.
