The interview starts with Brett plugging that Jay Lethal will be wrestling in Streamwood, Illinois on May 5th at NWA Midwests No Gimmicks Needed where you can purchase tickets at on www.midwestwrestling.com. Jay talked about wrestling Chris Candido in one of his last matches and that anything with Chris name on it Ill be there. Jay then talked about the fans in Streamwood and how the fans brought slim jims. Brett then got Jay to say snap into a slim jim in the Savage voice. Jay then talked about getting his start in the business with JAPWs version of Tough Enough and barely making it in to get free training.
Brett then asked about his thoughts on JAPW and Jay said he loves it and is cool with the whole locker room because they use the same guys frequently. Jay then talked about the feud between NWA Cyberspace and JAPW years ago and he said he dislikes feuds and that he just wants to wrestle. He said if he had to pick one it would have been JAPW because its his home fed but that he likes both promotions. Brett asked about Teddy Harts departure from JAPW and Jay said hes
a genuine guy and that he can draw and that hell miss him.
Jay then talked about getting into TNA and he credited Samoa Joe for helping him get in. He said that TNA saw his ROH match with Joe and liked it so they brought him in to face him. He said in his TNA match with him he got to showcase his skills so he got a spot in TNA. Brett then asked how he got the name Jay Lethal. Jay said that his friends came up with a few names: Jay Static, Jay Sniper, and Jay Lethal. He also talked about the JAPW school closing and his friends going to Mikey Whipwreck's school.
Sanford Gomph then asked about Jays opinion on Sanjayas elimination from American Idol and he said he doesn't follow it but that Sonjay Dutt said that Sanjaya is a weird Indian name. Brett said Sonjay Dutt is cool because he wears a backwards hat on TV. Brett then asked about the TNA Jackass storyline. Jay said he didn't really like it. Jay said it was a good idea but wasn't executed
correctly. He then talked about loving doing the Nash segments with Senshi and all of the other guys. Sanford then asked about his opinions on Jeremy Borash. Lethal said he's a good friend of his and helped get him into TNA. Sanford then told Jay to tell Jeremy to say hello to him for him.
Gomph then asked if Jay has seen Wild Hogs, Jay said he hadn't. Sanford Gomph said that Martin Lawrence reminded him of Jay Lethal. Jay said, Why is it because I'm black? Sanford said that was partially the reason, but mainly because they're both funny. Jay said he isn't nearly as funny as Martin Lawrence.
Jay then discussed the origins of the Black Machismo. He said it started as a joke in the locker room with him doing the impression in front of the boys, and that he did it on Paparazzi Idol and evolved from there. He said Nash came up with the name Black Machismo. Jay said he is not jealous of Sonjay Dutt's Oz gimmick. He then talked about Nash's great sense of humor. Brett then asked
where Jay got his Savage ring gear. He said a woman named Jolene made them for him. Sanford Gomph then did an awful Macho Man impression. Jay then talked about MySpace and fans commenting him. The Sanman then mentioned the Baba Borash picture Brett made and put up on BWRs MySpace, www.myspace.com/bwrsucks.
Jay then talked about wrestling in front of the St. Louis fans at Lockdown and he said its the best crowd he's ever wrestled in front of. Brett then asked about attendance and Jay said he's bad with numbers but he'd heard 6,000 a lot. Sanman asked if Lethal has spoken to Randy Savage since starting the gimmick. He said he had and that Savage had no complaints and was really happy for him. Brett then told the story about Savage backing down to Hogan a few years ago backstage
at Victory Road, Lethal said, I don't believe it, do not talk about my idol like that. Jay then said he bought Randy Savages album the day it came out and then sang Be A Man on the air.
Brett then asked Jay about Bob Backlund. He said he wont talk to him unless he recites all of the Presidents of the USA backwards and forwards. Brett suggested printing out a list of US presidents and Jay said hed try it. Brett said he thinks that Backlund is a waste of TV time but Lethal said he isn't and that his segment with Jeremy Borash where he said nothing was hilarious. He also said Backlund told him to save his money. Brett then asked about TNA stopping hotel payments, he said it sucks but they are just trying to save some money and he doesn't hold any hard feelings about it.
Jay also talked about AJ Styles, Don Wests Insane Daily Deals, Jeff Jarrett's face turn, the Kings of Wrestling, and so much more.
