PWINSIDER Q&A: BROCK LESNAR'S WWE DEPARTURE, TRINITY, WWF INITIALS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-04-24 09:00:00

Hello, is Trinity still under contract with the WWE? I havent seen her on ECW for awhile.

Trinity, who was last seen at Wrestlemania 23, is still currently under a WWE deal.

How come WWE doesn't seem to care if fans flip(point the middle finger) on camera. I mean I go to NBA games and they say please do not use expletive language or do anything bad like that. Is WWE just lazy or what?

It's not that the company is lazy as much as it would be hypocritical to chastise fans for doing what one of their top stars of all time, Steve Austin, did on camera.  Beyond that, you have to remember that the difference between the NBA and WWE is that the NBA isn't in the business at creating characters meant to provoke fans' ire.

What is the current situation between Brock Lesnar and WWE. I understand that Brock has moved on and has had a brief stint in Japan and is currently doing MMA but is there a chance that in the near future he could come back to WWE. Or is the relationship between Brock and Vince so poor that it eliminates any possibility of ever seeing Brock in a WWE ring ever again. Also, since I didnt pay attention to insider news at the time, what caused Brock to leave WWE in the first place.

Lesnar left WWE because he was burnt out on the travel and grind, although at the time it should be noted he was being moved down the cards so that may have had something to do with his resentment over the situation.  He tried to do football and got a release for that.  When it didn't pan out, he moved onto New Japan and later sued WWE to get out of his contract when they tried to enforce it.  The two sides settled out of court.  It's not impossible that one day down the line Lesnar may decide to return, but I doubt he'd ever be placed into such a prominent position like the one he held ever again.  He was planned to be a top star from his TV debut and WWE spent a lot of time and effort getting him there, only to have him pull out of the company.  I don't think they'd make that investment again, but you never know, since others have received chance after chance.  At this point though, Lesnar will be making his MMA debut on 6/2 and has made no hints he's looking at returning to pro wrestling.

I know this may sound like a strange question but, could TNA buy the rights to be called the WWF from the World Wildlife Fund?

No.  The WWE sued WWE over the rights to the letters and confusion in the marketplace, so I doubt they'd be looking to sell the initials to someone else and end up back in the same situation, plus the WWF letters would be meaningless as the general population knows it's turned into WWE.

Do you have any insider information on how Hulk Hogan's 20 year contract affects the current situation between Hogan-and the WWE? I find it hard to believe that Hogan or Vince would sign a deal that was not "iron clad" or guaranteed. Do you really think the WWE has the guts to cut all ties with him (even though his best days are behind him)?  It will be a shame that Hogan will not appear at WM23.  Especially since this is the 20th Anniversary of WM3 when Hogan beat Andre.

The deal that Hogan agreed to was a licensing and merchandising deal, so it has no bearing on the current situation between the two sides.
