Now that the Hardys have won the Tag Belts on RAW what are the chances that we might see some more focus put on the tag teams? This could be a good chance to push the World's Greatest Tag Team up the ladder and to become credible contenders for the belts. Could you see any potential in this feud?
You know, I would love to say "the tag teams are back" but let's look at what has happened since Matt and Jeff struck gold. WGTT has already been buried. The top contenders are Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, who were jobbers just a few weeks ago. They have a title match at Backlash (with talk being possibly that Ric Flair and Carlito, two singles workers, will be added to the bout). That doesn't scream "tag team revival" to me. I think that WWE's philosophy of having guys becomes singles stars and tag teams being secondary will stay in tact.
Why do wrestling companies have pay-per-views on Sunday Nights? Is there some strategy behind having it on a Sunday Night? I would think Saturday nights would be more beneficial... younger kids could stay up later, thus convincing their parents to buy it. Plus more bars may purchase it.
PPVs started on Sunday because it used to be the biggest TV viewing night of the week (which Thursday has surpassed). Sunday has always been a big TV night because it's the end of the weekend and people are getting ready to go back to school or work, so they are usually home and around the TV. The stress of the work/school week hasn't started, so Sunday is an optimal day for viewing. Plus, in the winter a lot of people spend the day watching football which puts them home for the PPV. Saturdays are a terrible night to air since kids and young adults go out, and they are a primary demographic of PPV. UFC does well on Saturday nights because young adults can watch the show at bars but kids can't and wrestling draws a good number of buys from kids.
Quick question about WWE House shows. Will they be mixing talent on the house shows or will the still keep the rosters separated for house shows? The reason for my question is, for example what happens if they take Shawn Michaels to Smackdown to challenge the Undertaker for the title, it would make sense to further the feud with matches on house shows, but if I have a ticket to a Raw house show I expect to see Shawn Michaels or vice versa. Thanks guys love the site!
I haven't heard what the plans are going forward. I don't even know if an official decision has been made yet. From where I sit, it would make sense to do it because if the idea sells on PPV, it should sell some tickets at the house shows too. But on the flip side, they have to careful not to take too much talent off of one show and leave the other brand's light.
Hey there, I was wondering about Ring of Honor. What are the chances of them turning those big events that they've been doing since the beginning into PPVs? You know, the one's like "Night of Appreciation," or "Glory by Honor?" I think that they can benefit from turning them into PPVs & help get exposed. What do you think?
I don't see much of a plus side for ROH in doing that. They have been very successful running their business as they do now. They run the show and make a gate live, then sell their DVDs and make a nice profit from them. They sell their DVDs for 20 dollars and probably net around $18 after expenses. And, they get paid right away. If they sell a taped PPV for that same price, they only get 8 dollars and wait up until a year to get paid. If they air the PPV live, it increases the costs of the show in a big way. So, they take a big pay cut by airing via PPV. They also make it easier for people to pirate their material.
Without national TV to promote their product, I don't see them picking up many new customers on PPV so what they would end up doing is make less money from their shows and wait to get paid, the exact opposite of what they do now. Even with national TV, there is no guarantee that they would do better financially than they are doing now. I just don't see any positives in them doing it.
With the new Wembley Stadium now officially open, what are the chances of WWE having their first Wrestlemania outside North America there? After all, the stadium will hold 100,000 easily for Wrestling and given the huge fan base in Europe it would be a total sellout.
I agree that the show would draw a great crowd if it were held in the UK. That is a great fan base for WWE to draw from. With that said, I see a major problem with running a PPV there. London is five hours ahead of the US east coast. That would mean that they would have to either run the show live, and KNOW that spoilers for their biggest show of the year would get out and hurt their buyrate, or start the event at midnight in the UK and have it run until 4 a.m. For a show as big as Mania, that is a chancy proposition, hoping that people will stay up all night at the building to watch the show. And even if they did, the crowd could get pretty dead as the evening progresses due to just being tired. I just can't think of a good way around either of those problems.
