PWINSIDER Q&A: MIKE TYSON, BRITISH BULLDOGS IN WWE HALL OF FAME, BASH AT THE BEACH INCIDENT, JAMES & STEVENS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-04-15 09:00:00
The WWE has done a great job of releasing specialty DVD's such as the ECW and 4 Horsemen sets, and they always release pay-per-views, but do you ever see them releasing yearly compilations such as The Best of World Championship Wrestling 1984? I believe those years of TBS broadcasts when the Crockett's took over and later combined with the UWF were the best years outside of the Monday Night Wars.

I would love to see that type of DVD and several years ago, wrote about the possibility of WWE doing small print runs for perhaps a "Collector's Club" product line designed specifically for nostalgia fans. I don't see WWE doing it, but if you can get WWE 24/7, that may be the best bet to fill what you are looking for, as they are running episodes in chronological order for some of the old territories.

I am a proud elite member and I have a simple question. I watched the incident at WCW Bash at the Beach were Jarret laid down for Hogan. Russo then came out and blasted Hogan. What was the real story behind this? Was this a work or a shoot? Love the site and keep up the great work.

It was meant to be an angle where Hulk Hogan would eventually return with the WCW belt he held and feud with whoever the "new" WCW champion was down the line. However, Vince Russo's comments on the mic went against the grain of what was agreed upon, so depending on who you believe, he legitimately was out to get rid of Hogan or Hogan took offense with what was said on the mic. Hogan eventually sued Turner Broadcasting about the situation and has intimated that it was settled out of court, but the reality is he lost the case.

The trial court granted a summary judgment in favor of Turner, feeling Hogan didn't prove the comments were made out of the context of the WCW storylines. Hogan later appealed. The Georgia Court of Appeals affirmed the trial court's judgment in January of 2005. The court then denied Hogan's motion to reconsider the following month. It went to the Georgia Supreme Court, who also denied Hogan's appeal in June of that year. In the end Hogan received nothing for his legal troubles. Thanks to Brett Coale for his help.

Here's another WWE Hall Of Fame question. I'm a huge fan of Dynamite Kid (and also of the British Bulldogs). Considering that Dynamite Kid hasn't been heard of in ages and that he and Diana Hart/Smith didn't get along very well do you see the Bulldogs inducted together or separately. If they were inducted separately who do you see inducted first? I know that's hypothetical but I'm just curious. Davey Boy Smith had a better career in WWE in my opinion but I think Dynamite did much better in Japan and has influenced today's wrestling more. What's your opinion on that? Thanks and keep up the great work.

My guess is that Dynamite will reject the idea of being inducted as he's turned down all overtures for projects, including a WWE action figure and numerous attempts to book him for convention appearances and shoot interviews. Thus, unless they induct Dynamite in anyway, my guess is Davey Boy Smith, who was a far bigger singles star for WWF and WCW, will end up inducted first. Make no doubt about it, however, both are deserving. Dynamite revolutionized the business and Davey was a legitimate bonafide superstar for WWF in the European market.

Hey great site! Wasn't there a tag team on Smackdown with one of the members named Idol Stevens or something like that? What happen to them?

You are thinking of KC James and Idol Stevens. Both are back in Ohio Valley Wrestling waiting for WWE to call them back up to the main roster. Stevens is back working as a singles star while James is teaming with Cassidy Riley.

Do you think Mike Tyson would ever be entered into the WWE Hall Of Fame?? I'd like to see it just to experience his acceptance speech.

Absolutely. He was part of a major angle and turning point in WWF history. I think it's a matter of when, not if.
